Have you tried the search feature? Look up threads by you and put the dates like this:
Newer than 3 months Older than 1 month Then, change the numbers as needed. Unfortunately, the search feature isn't great on this site. |

ya i tried the search, but as u said it only goes as far back as 3 months..
isnt there a way to access threads older than that? or do they just disappear? it really is tough because GREAT advice is given in some threads that would be very useful to those looking for advice. having a better search would be alot of help for new members and questions that have already been asked. |

I can see all of your older threads by playing with the numbers. You can only search for a 3 month period at one time.
Try 6 months / 3 months or 4 months / 2 months, etc. It's goofy that we can't just look up threads more easily or over a longer span of time. |

What works best is to add yourself as a "Watched user", then you can see all your post unless deleted in one of those cleaning sessions. I also have the habit to add all the threads I open as "watched topic"
If you have the google toolbar you can use the "look on this site" feature. |

If logged in, MyStuff/My posts
or google it, enter some keywords from the subject OR body, then "site:http://www.germanshepherds.com" after in the search window bar of google. It's a MUCH more efficient search engine, and has no time constraints!

That's a good idea with adding yourself as a Watched User.
If you don't have the google toolbar, you can also just do a search in google using "inurl" in your search like this: Fransheska inurl:germanshepherds.com Make sure you click "repeat the search with the omitted results included" after the results are displayed so it shows everything. |

Good question/points Fransheska! I have been wanting to look at some past posts from more than a year ago. No avail. I was going to ask the same question Francheska did. There has got to be a way to access old posts/threads. Thank you BsingVA, Lican, and Dog for some added search options and ideas.
Also...there sould be direct server space for pictures uploaded instead of storing them other places with a link to like Photobucket, etc. When you want to see a pic, it is gone since the pic owner deleted it from that pic website. Any way to update this old outdated software for this set of forums? Gripe, gripe, gripe....

Most posts from more than a year ago are pruned. This is a large board, lots of members and lots of posts daily so pruning is necessary to stay within the server space.
The old outdated software you refer to isn't that out of date. The newest version gives you an option for on site or off site storage for photos, most large board will click the option for off site storage because again of server space. There are options for you to save your pictures on some of the free sites. You can get a free website to save your pictures, lots of those out there, you can use Photobucket, Shutterfly and I am sure there are a few more. Wisc.Tiger - Admin |

More on searching this site using google, thought they should be in this sticky -- I copied these from another thread:
Posted by SunCzarina Crowned Member I've had decent luck finding old posts using Google If you search for something like: germanshepherds.com blue liver Find the search result that has a link to this site, then look for More results from http://www.germanshepherds.com » You'll get 611 links to threads that contain the words BLUE and LIVER (and you'll have to ignore the threads where BlackGSD talks about liver becuase she has 'Blue Merle male "Heeler" 9-29-99' in her signature) Strana1 Master Member another way in google is to type blue liver site:germanshepherds.com and it will only search this site |
