Default Suggestion: FAQ Thread for Newbies

I would like to suggest that we create a new forum where only moderators can post that lists the most frequently asked questions that newbies to the forum ask.

Reasons why we should have such a forum

<ul>[*]Newbies are often treated rudely when they ask a question that has been asked a million times.[*]The forum is very hard to search, so Newbies might have a hard time finding the info they need.[*]When Newbies ask a very common question, posters could refer them to that forum and this would keep posters from reposting the same answers over and over.[*]Having a separate forum, unlike stickies in each forum, would make it easier on the Admins when the board is upgraded.[/list]
Background info: This recent thread prompted discussion about the need for such a forum:

Would this be possible??

Thays a great idea! Or have something along the lines of a resource center with links, threads, etc where a new member (or even a not so new member) could go to get information that new puppy owners ask the most; teething, mouthing, crate training, basic command training, etc.

Good idea Mayzie!

That would be nice for a bunch of stickies to sit in. Unfortunately with all the board pruning we have lost a LOT of valuable threads. Is there no way to keep more of these around or to expand the search time frame other than the measly and cumbersome 3 months?

Vinnie's suggestion was to move discussion here. So what if member volunteers pick through good threads and piece together information that will end up on webpages hosted on and linked on the germanshepherds.com website? This is the site that hosts this board and it is owned by the same person, so would it still violate copyright? It would keep the information safe from pruning and upgrading.

I posted this in another thread but I should mention it here...

I like the idea of a separate forum with stickied FAQ's about GSDs.

Should I get a male or a female?
When to spay and neuter?
Will my dog go crazy on BARF?
Tell me about the Furminator...
etc...etc...etc...

That way everyone can find that info fast and people who've seen it 10,000 times don't get too tired of seeing it one more time.

Maybe under the articles section on the main page?

Just a few thoughts on this.

1. When a member, new or old, asks a question many times they think they are unique in their experience. Even if it's common and repetitive to someone else. And they will still ask the question again.

2. Another forum will not make it easier. Another forum will take up more space, time and will ultimately make it just a little more difficult.

*Edit* Vinnie, I was thinking along the lines of another forum and moving the existing stickies there so they'd be easier to find.

Great Idea! It could be the 'So you want to get a German Shepherd' section.

After the thread on returning that cute pup, I thought maybe it would be nice to do thread
Days in the lives of a working line dog

Where we could talk about the totally normal nutty things these dogs do when they're young. Like eat a trampoline, a couch or a shoe. Like obsessing over shadows on the kitchen wall to the point of randomly barking in excitement. Tackling the children and taking their socks off. Stealing shoes to keep the kids home from school for another minute or two... wait, that was my day, tell me about yours...

That's something we should check into. I'll do some research......
