Default Editing Posts?

I have a thread with an "list" i'm trying to keep updated, but can't seem to edit my posts, more specifically, the first post, so that I can update the list. Any way around this? here's the thread.

The forum only allows a limited time to edit your posts, I believe it's about 15 minutes. People have asked about changing this, but unlimited editing creates other problems, so it's not something the board is considering.

The edit window is only a few minutes long. After a few minutes no more editing is allowed, so I'm afraid you'll have to come up with a different way to update your list. Sorry.

Well that stinks, but I'm sure there's a reason. Thanks for clarifying!

I don't know what sort of problems it could create. I've admin'ed on a board for over 12 years and mod'ed on another board for five and we don't see these problems with being able to edit a post indefinitely.

Well we aren't going to change it and I love it this way.

As moderators, it would be a nightmare. People could post anything all the time breaking rules galore and as long as they fixed it before the admins/mods see them they'd be good to go forever.

This way people can be held accountable for what they post. And if it means we need to be a bit more thoughtful when we post. Or make sure we read it thru and edit within the time frame then that's good too.

The easy solve for the issue would be add more moderators. Sure, it saves the "hassle" of having to "keep an eye" on things, but it also hinders things such as making ONE thread for things, because instead of making a thread every time you wanted to show everyone something about your dog, you could just go back and update your old thread.

One idea that might be great would be to make a "dog journal" area, and make that forum editable. Make a journal with your dogs name and then just update it as time goes on. That's what one of my car forums does... you just start a journal then keep it updated.. and people follow it throughout its existence.

I don't think it's seen as a problem so nothing to 'solve'. I've seen people keep a journal/diary of their dog here in a way .. they just add a new post to their original topic. You don't really need to edit it to keep a journal. At least it's a workaround considering you're NOT going to be editing your original post.
