What is "trackback"?
What is this? When I reply to a message I see sites that were "pinged". Exactly what is this and is this putting cookies on my computer?

I am getting that too!!!!
I only get it on the Random thread when I quote a post though. It's very weird and has me concerned too.

It's communication between this site and another when we reply. Probably how they pick the advertisements.

Yes, that is what I'm getting. I don't know if its something to be concerned about. Is it putting cookies on our computers? Is it opening us up to viruses? I just don't know what it does.

Okay well I am glad I'm not the only one getting this. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong!
I hate being tracked by companies (if that's what this is).

That's weird! I don't see it on mine ( yet).
admin doesn't know what it is...or just hasn't gotten back to you yet? I just saw at the bottom of my screen where I can turn track back and ping backs on or off...right now says they are on.... Last edited by KatsMuse; 08-24-2012 at 03:11 PM. |

Trackback A Trackback is simply an acknowledgment. This acknowledgment is sent via a network signal (ping) from Site A (originator) to Site B (receptor). The receptor often publishes a link back to the originator indicating its worthiness. Trackback requires both, Site A and Site B to be Trackback enabled in order to establish this communication. Trackback does not require for Site A to phisically link to Site B. Trackback our Forums from another Site Trackback other Sites from our Forums Pingback A Pingback is also a signal (ping) sent from Site A to Site B. However, it's also a link. When Site B receives the notification signal, it automatically goes back to Site A checking for the existance of a live incoming link, if it exists, the Pingback is recorded successfully. This makes Pingbacks less prone to SPAM than Trackbacks. Both sites must be Pingback enabled in order to establish this communication. If a site is Pingback enabled, each time you link-out you will be "pinging" external sites. Pingback requires for Site A to phisically link to Site B.
