I'm curious, for those that think outing someone based on publicly available information....how would you feel if one of these people out there (not just talking about the person in question...just overall) got a dog because of something you did--breeder recommendation, helped with a transport, pulled a dog for them, etc? Then saw a video like the one played, or say, found out that 10 dogs under the person's care in the last 2 years have ended up dead or disappeared? And you helped?
I am not a fan of gossip and speculation and rumors being spread as truth. I have no problem with someone hanging themselves because of things they are too stupid not to keep out of public or the internet. Heaven forbid it's YOU that helps one of these people get their next dog.

Amen Justine! It's blowing my mind the number of people that are feeling sorry for this person. Ganged up on? Should we all remain silent and let animals get hurt? If you saw someone chasing a child around with an object like, would you be horrified then? If you saw a video where the child is obviously terrified of the adult, would you stay silent?
I realize that dogs are not children but they are just as dependent on us as children. I am horrified and disgusted that anyone would condone and defend such behavior. |

Unless your computer/work network is from the dark ages (pre2000), it's doubtful you have a static IP address. Which means you have the same IP address every internet session. Close the browser/turn off the computer, you'll get a new one from your Internet Service Provider's pool of numbers. Or your work computer's pool of numbers.

I'm currently banned from another forum (shhhhhh), identical to this but for golden retrievers. Just temporary. But I'm pretty sure it's by IP address because I can't access the site on any computer I use at home or at work, or on any computer I've used to access the site before. And I've not tried to sneak in under a different name (how ridiculous that would be). Maybe every forum is different? I've always been told it's by IP address there.
Maybe I should go home and burn my cookies

They can't block you by your IP address unless you're using some very archaic equipment. There are only so many IP addresses to go around. Your ISP at home isn't going to give you one that just belongs to you because it doesn't make sense economically. It can be done to block addresses off a certain network server - like the one you have at work. For example I had a reseller in Singapore trying to make multiple copies of a piece of software (as if it was freeware). So I wrote a script to create a log record everytime someone from a server bearing the same first 3 blocks 220.255.2. was trying to access the registration key generation script. The last 2 digits (as in IP address of 220.255.2.65) would often be different but it was the same first portion, indicating it was originating from the same server. So I routed anyone who's IP address started with 220.255.2. to an automatic FAIL. You can't block a whole network in the case of someone using a home network because most people at home don't have their own server (maybe Hunter does). If you use a company such as Verizon for your ISP like I do because I run a home business, my IP might be 74.97.177.139 96.238.17.182 71.100.140.129 etc etc Can't block that, there's no logic there to build off on. Nevermind you'd block everyone who has the same ISP getting numbers out of the same pool. So toss out your burnt cookies.

Since this is going a direction we want to avoid, I am closing it.
