I really appreciate the 800 x 600 rule. And after my first warning about over-sized pics, I'm pretty sure I haven't done it again. When I off load my photos onto my computer, I always make a second copy and put it in an "Uploads" folder, where I re-size everything to 800 x 600. That way I know if I want to put up a photo on here, I can just pull it from that folder and put it on Photobucket without worrying about the size.

I have a cellular internet connection with a monthly data limit. And I am an impatient person when I am online, because I usually only have a couple of hours to be on and lots of stuff to get through, so I can't be twiddling my thumbs waiting for a picture thread to open (even if I switch to a different thread on another tab, it's still slowing everything down).

I'm on a beekeeping forum, and there is no size limit at all on there. So people put up these full size pics and honest to God, I can't even try to look at them. I wanted to check out one of those "Show Yourself" threads, and after five minutes of waiting for the first page to load I got disgusted and never bothered with it again. And it sucks because seeing the other pictures of beehive set ups and pictures of their frames would be very helpful to me.

Anyway, yes I think that if you upload a photo that is too big, it should be removed.

I bet the people on that Bee forum really appreciate the large pics though. It doesn't sound reasonable to me that they should all be forced ti view smaller images because you are using a cellular internet connection or because someone else might have an old display system that is only capable of 800x600 and so its perfect for them.
Oh well, that's just my 2cents and probably what its worth

BTW, can't you go to a library or something with a more reasonable data rate?

You have a point I guess, seeing high-res images of the bees can be helpful in many instances. But it's not too helpful for me. And I am the most important person to myself at the moment.

The reason I have a cellular internet connection is because that is the only one available to me. I live off the grid far out in the country, in the woods. Trees block the satellite, and I'm not cutting down my trees. The library is 7 miles away.

Some day, maybe the cable company will come out my way. So far they have not.

You must really be out there in the sticks. My sister lives in Phonecia. It seems pretty far out there to me.

Cable does not run down my road either. About a dozen years ago, someone from the cable company came out and asked if I would be interested. I said no (internet through cable was never considered back then). It isn't that far out in the sticks, but most of the people are on dial up, so the phone lines are really messed up. We are also rural and pretty poor as a county.

I live in a rural area on a farm. I am not out in the middle of no where, but there are not enough houses for them to come through with cable. Our phone lines are ancient and when I asked the phone repair person about DSL he laughed. Satellite is expensive and not reliable. I am stuck with dial-up.
