That's my laugh for the day, lol.

I agree with the profanity thing here.

There is no reason for it. It violates rules we agreed to when we came on board. Though, I just now read those rules -- it has been so long ago, I cannot remember if we were required to read the rules again when the site changed hands.

In my life around certain people, I do swear. But I do not swear around everyone I know. I find it offensive the way young people talk around older people. And I find it awkward when people who have 30+ years on me let out a good stream of profantiy. I do not swear around them, and I find it odd when they swear around me. So if an individual old enough to be my parent swears around me, I might be willing to let fly a wordy derd in their presence.

But what we say is one thing, what we write, is another. It is down in black and white for everyone to read. How many people might we have offended. What impression of ourselves did this make.

I will substitute Fiery Pit for a certain censored word here, as I think it is kind of silly to sensor that and not sensor Heck which is ONLY used as an explicative. But whatever Darn and Heck are ok I guess.

And as a fellow from work a few years back said, using the word "poopie" instead of its unacceptable counter part, well it just doesn't sound the same -- you are so full of poopie -- doesn't sound the least bit likely to start an all out row.

I have a friend that believes if she swears she'll be doomed to eternal damnation. So instead of saying the words she spells them. I guess God can't spell or something.

Perhaps you weren't, but others have.

I realize your original question was answered by Lauri about 63 posts ago. As is typical of a place like this, though, it triggered further discussion with several other people weighing in on the topic and it morphed a little (as conversations do) in the process. As long as people remain civil with each other, it's all good, right?

Of course we can & will all act like adults & remain civil with each other. Or at least we won't cuss each other out.

I've been known to say "that's a bunch of bullspit" or call someone a "son of a mother" when I get really wound up about something, and I frequently masticate in public.

I understand the concept of protecting children from profanity, but IMO it would be sufficient to define profanity the way the FCC does - no more, no less.
Well said ... makes perfect sense ... and I bet the FCC lets you say **** Chaney's name without being censored too!!!

I thought of a 3rd word that is not allowed here that is perfectly okay with the FCC. Actually, I didn't just think of it on my own, I HEARD it used on AM radio this afternoon!!!
