Just a suggestion that only users with at least... say... 1,000 posts could recommend a breeder, and even then must post how they know about this breeder and what experience they've had with them.
There seems to an influx of brand new members popping up out of nowhere and adamantly recommending certain breeders. |

Out of curiosity, why is this a problem? Couldn't someone be a new member but have years of experience behind their belt? What does number of posts have to do with the knowledge they might bring?
I rehabilitated a dog-aggressive dog. Should I wait until I have 1000 posts before I shell out any advice? Will hitting my 1000th post change my experience or knowledge?

I think it is more out of frustration sometimes.
This is an open forum and I would hope with any type of recommendation potential buyers will do their own homework.

I can say I only recommend when someone asks me specifcially where I got my
dog(s) and I pm the info. I in turn, pm people that I see considering a breeder that I know is a puppy mill and/or an irreputable breeder. |

Why would anyone take someone they didn't know, opinion and go with a breeder recommendation without researching thoroughly that breeder...it is their own fault if they have a problem with a breeder due to a member recommendation.
1000 posts could be just a bumping of a thread or a LOL post, I don't think the # of posts has any bearing on a user's experience or knowledge of the breed. |

Many of these posts show up on Google searches and people who aren't even members may stumble upon a site they've never seen before and see a string of 10 people recommend the breeder they just Googled and run out and purchase a puppy. Last edited by Jax's Mom; 05-15-2011 at 09:42 PM. |

I understand, I was just using an analogy. My point is the number of posts doesn't really change your experience/knowledge. I just don't see how a post limit will really be beneficial. People should do their homework and research any recommendation whether coming from someone with 500 posts or someone with 10,000 posts.

Because it would take a breeder a little bit more time to create 10 user IDs for themselves and rack up 10,000 posts to be able to recommend themselves
![]() We're always whining that people purchasing puppies don't do their research... We're not making it any better by setting them up with false information when they do make an effort to look into what they're buying. Not everyone has time to loiter around a forum for hours a day to "research"... The conversations here aren't more than Google search hits for them. We could be just flooding the internet with free advertisements and recommendations for puppy mills. |
