Post a video, help?

Can anyone tell me how to post a youtube video in my post? I have tried the two embedding options given by youtube, neither work.

I just copy the URL in the browser. Just as easy.
Click it, copy it and paste it and voila!

Sometimes you want to post a video because it adds something to the thread, but perhaps you don't want to be so intrusive to have the video embedded. I've seen some people post a web address something like:
http://www.yout_ube.com/xxxxxx

Where do people get this modified url from?
