Mods are human beings too. What was it MRL is the only perfect one?
Well, sometimes there are threads where people start saying what ought to be said even if it is not what the op wants to hear. Then either they get angry, or some newbie comes on and rudely admonishes the people who are saying what ought to be said. Sometimes, I think that the people coming in and doing the defending (and I do that sometimes too), but sometimes, they are more rude than the original comments, and sometimes a thread will turn south where the op and everyone else would have been just fine except for the people jumping in to protect people's feelings. I think that some people are far too sensitive, and take things too personally, or maybe expect a negative response and read things like that, where it was never intended. I can see mods being a part of that, they often say that they do not see people being rude. And maybe because they have read a lot of these people's posts enough times, they do not see rudeness where it is not intended but might be construed as such.

I am tired of reading the attack by the mob posts. However, this is the internet, and people feel like they can say anything they want with no repercussions. I bet that 90% of the negative things that are said would not be said in a face-to-face discussion. If everyone only posted what they would say to someone else face-to-face, we would have a lot less bashing, cussing, and insults. That is why I stopped reading the comments people leave on news stories on yahoonews, cnn, and fox. I go insane! |

You are right selzer! A few months back when I first joined, I jumped in to defend someone because I felt people were being terrible to them. However, when I was trying to defend them, I ended up insulting quite a few members. And I became the person being terrible! That is why I only post like what I said above now

I think that there are a lot of personality types, and a lot of personalities in the membership, and varying degrees of passion.
Some people blame the language or the fact that the language is a second language to them. There are differences in culture. In that case, being a mix of German, English, and Hungarian, I am blunt, harsh, and fiery. Some of us are more passionate/protective/defensive about certain areas, or certain topics. And then there are those that love a good conversation/debate, and others that like to stir the pot. And some who come in just to get things going. And somewhere in between you had admins and mods trying to be fair and balanced. You cannot have a football game without referees, and usually there are a whole lot of fans not happy about the officiating. And it does not mean the officiating was bad, really.

Once you get to know certain users "humor" you'll know where their posts come from....and of course as this is the internet, understanding the gist of some posts can be tiresome.
There is a cliquey group that seem to band together and bash others, but it is done subtly enough that warranting a notification isn't necessary. That group has their own board, and it must be boring or they wouldn't come here to create drama. Many of the new posters will come on strong and then after seeing the dynamics of users, see a different perspective of posts. I really don't group all the mods together, they are individuals doing a volunteer position. They are not a "unit" and shouldn't be viewed as such. Some are more to the point, and I appreciate it as long as the viewpoint is fair(mods are usually pretty knowledeable or they wouldn't be asked to moderate) I really appreciate the admin/mods, each one has a wealth of knowledge in the forums they moderate, and help in a way that is not condenscending. |

What puzzles & annoys me most is when someone comes in asking for opinions and/or advice & gets offended when people give their opinions & advice.
![]() The one thing that absolutely drives me bonkers: Double standards. The most annoying of all: "I have the right to do or say anything I want, no matter whom it offends, but nobody has the right to offend me in any way or hurt my feelings by letting me know that I've offended them. If I don't think something is offensive, neither should anyone else. So QUIT BEING SO BLEEPING THIN SKINNED & CRITICAL OF EVERYTHING I SAY, OR I'M GONNA GO SOMEPLACE WHERE PEOPLE AREN'T SO MEAN TO ME, YOU FLATULENT SIMIAN ARMPIT!" |
