Default Picture rules suggestion

Instead of totally removing the picture, can moderators just remove the img tags and leave the link to the picture(s) in place and put a warning underneath the link(or at the end of the post if there are multiple pictures) that the picture(s) is larger than 800 x 600?

It's frustrating to click thread after thread and not see any pictures. At least this way, you can still view the picture if you know your internet can handle it until the OP gets around to resizing. I see no reason to remove the entire link.

With this board software there are no image tags in the post once it's been posted.

Trust me, we Moderators don't LIKE having to remove pictures and luckily the majority of the board follow the rules so there aren't a huge number of pictureless threads.

Which explains why when you quote the picture to reply, you see the actual picture and not the link where it came from.

There is a square button in the upper right corner with an A. It's the HTML button and once you posted the picture you hit the button and get the HTML tags

Just hit that button and you will get the HTML instead of the pictures

We've had a huge influx of new members in the last year or so, and many of them don't seem to have read the rules about maximum picture size, which is why we've had so many oversized pictures recently and you're seeing all those threads with the pictures deleted.

Once everyone realizes that we DO have a maximum picture size and starts resizing their pictures before posting them (Photobucket will do this for you automatically when you upload to their site from your computer, and it doesn't take any longer than NOT doing it) the problem will go away. Yes, the transition period is annoying, but it's also annoying to have to scroll back and forth to see a whole picture no matter how big your screen is. I NEVER used to have to do that on my 20" screen, now I have to do it all the time, or usually I don't even bother, I just click off the thread and move on.

I don't see why Lauri, the mod for the Pictures forum, should have to jump through hoops to make people's pictures appear properly when they haven't done it themselves. Instead, we're trying to educate people so that everyone will be following the rules so that nobody's pictures will have to be deleted.

Of course she shouldn't have to do it-it is just nice when a moderator does-as for following the rules -maybe the person is just not computer savy

Holland, that's why we are putting up directions on how to resize pictures. And yes it would be nice if the moderators had all the time in the world to be on the board fixing things, but the reality is that we are unpaid volunteers, and most of us have full time jobs. At some point, the board members have to take responsibility for themselves.

If is just one or two pictures I probably would leave the link (thanks to Mrs. K for the tip) but if the post contains a bunch of pictures I just don't have the time to fix them all.

Right now I am sending PMs to people with the link to the instructions I created on how to reduce pictures when I have to delete theirs. I will always do that when its a new member but I shouldn't have to remind those that have been here awhile.
