Default Longhair forum

Can we get a longhair forum for those of us exclusively into the breeding/working/care of longhaired shepherds? I think we are about to see a massive rise in the amount of longhair people and dogs with their acceptance in the s.v.! Thanks, Danielle Keith

That seems unnecessary. All of those things can be discussed sufficiently in the boards that are here now.

I agree, there is not much difference and you can talk about long haired GSDs on here. There isn't much difference between the breeders. I don't think they purposely breed for Long hairs, but rather have them pop up in litters.

I found this:

Jess- some breeders do breed specifically for long haired. And the OP is probably right, with their recent acceptance it probably will become more popular.

Personally, I disagree with breeding specifically for long haired (as in only using them in the breeding program to ensure 100% long haired) because you're narrowing the gene pool so much. But I'm a coatie owner and am thrilled at their acceptance.

I knew there were people who breed specifically for it, but wasn't sure if it was a good or bad thing. I agree with breeding them specifically as well.

Personally, I am glad they are being accepted. Not sure why they were not int he first place. I would love to own a coatie someday, the are beautiful just all GSDs.

I'm thinking this won't happen cause then we'd also have to have a 'Sable' section, B/T section, Black section, short stock coat section, White GSD section......

But we will see.

I think the long coat GSD are beautiful, but agree that it's kinda silly to make a new forum for it. This one should be more than enough. No?

I agree and my thoughts were along the same lines. If we start making sections we'll soon find ourselves with 20 of them.. long coats, stock coats, blacks, sables, whites, black and tans, bi-colors, males, females, American lines, working lines, German show lines, Czech lines, etc...

A GSD is a GSD, regardless of color or coat type. All GSDs are welcome here. But there is no reason to have separate sections, especially when people can easily post separate threads for whatever color/coat/bloodline type they wish to discuss in any of the forums.
