Question EPI/SIBO/GI Issues Section

Ok I may be jumping the gun a bit (as we just took our bloods today) to confirm if in fact Bacchus has EPI but..........since this disease does affects the majority of GSD I am just wondering if there were ever a suggestion of having a section dedicated just to EPI/SIBO/GI Issues within Health Issuses (like a sub-category). It may be a bit selfish of me but I really like this site and rather stay here than just start posting on a EPI Forum. All the information can be contained. There also seems to be a large family of EPI dogs owners here and I am sure those owners have a wealth of information that is invaluable to many other who are new to this disorder (such as myself)

Just a thought. Thanks for reading and perhaps considering it.

Blessings & Cheers,

Yvonne

Sorry to hear that your dog may have EPI. Just to clarify - the majority of GSDs do not have EPI thank goodness. Many vets have no experience and many GSD owners have never even heard of it and that is why it is sometimes hard to get actual facts and helpful information.

Just go into the Health Issues section and there is a ton of info there to begin reading. Also, there is so many variables between dogs with EPI such as some also have bouts of SIBO, some have allergies, etc. etc. that it is helpful to start your own thread down there. This way, you can give the details on your dog and people can try to tailor their advice for your needs.

As to your suggestion for a sub-catergory that would be helpful for some of the basic info such as types of tests to ask for, the need to fast the dog before the tests (which many vets do not seem aware of) and types of treatment to consider. I had thought that at one time there was such a thread so I'm wondering if it was lost in an upgrade.

Thank you for the clarification. I was under the impression that the dogs that are most prevelent to EPI are GSD. Having been the owner of 7 previous GSD I have NEVER even heard of this myself and although I am by means no expert or guru on GSD I do have a bit of knowledge and experience but this is a totally new ballgame.

Do you have an approximate number of how many owners with EPI/SIBO dogs that are active members here? I thought it would be a good sub-category not just because Bacchus may have it but because the GSD digestive systems in general are very sensitive in nature anyway and having a sub-category dedicated to this area may work out nicely in here.

In the health forum there are some stickies related to GI illnesses - check the top for collected wisdom. Let me know if you can't find them!

I would still join an EPI forum - I always recommend people with ortho issues go to orthodogs, shy k9 groups, etc. Just very specified and helpful.
