You can always retire the accounts and the info will stay. They just can't log in anymore and will be deactivated. However, here is some info that might help.

It works with other forums, don't know if it works here but usually it does.

If you request your password, on the bottom of the email it usually says to click that link if that's not your account and somebody is misusing your info. If you click that link you delete the password and your emailadress from the account. Name stays, post stay, you just can't log in anymore.

It is one way to retire an account. I've done it that way with another forum because I just didn't want to be part of that crowd anymore. Hating, mobbing, mean, gossipping people that went after some members in real life. I requested to be deleted and they said the same thing as Vinnie did. No big deal, just leave. But it is just not the same. I don't want to be associated with that crowd. Since I couldn't be fully deleted I did the best thing I could do. I requested the password, clicked the link and deactivated the account.

Okay, I'm confused - how is it any different to not be able to log in anymore because you asked to have your account deactivated, and simply choosing not to log in anymore because you don't want to be here? Your info is still there, but you'll be gone, either way.

And what if at some point you choose to return? That happens more often than you might expect. People go away for whatever reason, and then months or years come back and start posting again.

What is the big hairy deal?

If you do not want to be here, stop log, stop log, stop log, stop logging in.

Kind of simple really. People are all so smart about privacy and computers, that it should not be a tough concept.

Yes, we do need to keep what you posted, and your user name on it. Otherwise the continuity in threads will be gone. So sorry, you typed it on a public forum it is now there for all to see. If you do not want people to go back and see what embarrasing stuff you wrote, don't write embarrassing stuff.

If a banned individual tries hard enough, I am sure they will find ways around whatever the site does to ensure these people do not log in under another user name and address. But it makes sense for the site to hold the information and head some off at the pass.

If you are that conscious of your privacy, don't post on an internet forum, in fact, don't log on to the internet. Just like they can track your movements with your cell phone, they can track your movements on the internet highway. I think way too many people need to invest in a cave in the wilderness, or an island, or maybe a yellow submarine. As for me and my house, well, we will just stop logging in if we lose our desire to communicate with the GSD people here.

I think that lots of people have been pretty close to leaving the site at one point or another. So are goodbye-cruel-internet-posters threads not allowed now??? Is it an actual rule?
