Just something that another forum I'm on does, and it makes it much easier when it comes time to vote.
First, there is a submissions thread, where everyone posts their picture... After an alloted time, that is closed, and there is a nomination thread. Second, a thread to nominate ten dogs or less... So the members scroll through the photo submissions thread, pick ten (or less) that they like best, and post their picks, I.E: APBTLove SouthernThistle Mazza ect. Third, after an alloted time, the ten dogs who have the most nominations are put into an actual voting thread, where the moderator in charge takes the ten dog's pictures and puts them in THAT thread, along with a poll. Just an idea, it makes it a lot easier for the members to not have to go through a hundred or so pics and choose one, when it's narrowed down to the favorites, and then voted on. |

It's a good idea, but alot more work.
One of the best things about this forum is the tons of members and tons of posts each and every day. But that makes alot of monitoring and 'work' for all of us unpaid moderators/admins with our real lives and jobs and all the dog stuff we have to do!!! So I'm thinking that we probably won't be able to make a change like suggested unless one of the Mods/Admins suddenly ends up with alot more free time. But thanks for the suggestion and it is being looked at.

Great idea for us posters. I can imagine it being harder though on the moderators. What about just letting the moderators pick the obvious great photos on their own, narrow those down to 10 or less and then commence the voting?

I understand where you're coming from, but on the other hand, judges commonly pick even winners. What would it be like if all the participants at a dog show got to pick? Probably everyone would vote for their own dog and the winner would get there on a very slim margin. That's sort of what I see in the photo contest here, btw. There are votes available for basically everyone that submitted and the standouts (one's most voted for) barely even have that many votes, so your looking at hardly a wide majority the way it is. Streamlining might be helpful. Even though we all think our dog's pic is the best, there are some pics that are merely snapshots and others that are pretty brilliant. I don't see what would be terrible about trimming some of the more mundane entries.

What if some of the mods/admins have entered pics? Do they put their own picture up as one of the 10 best or do they avoid doing so, even if it clearly IS one of the best, so there are no cries of favoritism?

I think if there are many photos, picking the top 10 first, and then having a final vote is a great suggestion.
I also think that they should be voted on by the folks on the board, not chosen by the mods. Don't know if that input matters, but just thought I'd throw it out there

I won't comment further because the premise makes no sense to me.

This was also the first thing that popped into my mind too but I figured I must have been missing something.

Yeah, but look at the voting results so far. Two leaders with actually very few votes themselves and a bunch of the rest with only 1 or 2. If the voting stays this way, there'll be like 50 total votes and one winner with maybe 15 or so and the 2nd place with maybe 12? I'd like to see a greater majority for the winner and the only way that could happen is to somehow narrow the field. Just saying.
