Default Karma/Reputation

Just throwing out an idea, but another board I go to, which I believe is also VB, has it set up, where you can give posters karma/rep points on a post they do. They have it set up with negative Karma to, but I think you can just do the one...and you can put a short little message with it like "Great post" or something like that. Other than a little bar next to the name and whatnot that says like "so and so is love/has alot of friends/whatever" no one else sees your points or anything.

Am I explaining it clearly enough? lol

Anyways, I dont know, how well it would do on this board, or if anyone would even want something like that.

Its been really successful and fun

Sure, I know what you're talking about. (I think.) Don't they do something like that over on Leerburg's board?

Only problem I've seen with this is it becomes more of a popularity contest than anything anyone can rely on. For example someone doesn't like someone else so they give them negative points or this group of people are all buddies so they give each other all the positive points they can.

Are we talking about the same thing?

Yeah I think so.

I know they have a limit on how often you can touch some ones Karma. You get a message something like "you have touched this users karma, spread some around" or something like that.

As far as the negative, that would depend I guess? I know that if you make a post complaining about a point you got (positive or negative) its an instant temp ban (perma ban if you keep doing it) (But we did have a topic on it that stayed on general terms)

That I dunno about do, it would really depend on the other board members to keep it adult and not have it spill over into other threads...<sigh>

Somewhere in a users post, there will be a symbol for karma..one positive one negative.

Lets say, you post something that I I find very helpful and agreeable, etc etc.

So I click on the button and it'll come up to give or take away karma and a drop box to write something. Lets say I want to give you karma so, I put "give this user karma" and in the drop box I write, "I couldnt agree with you more" (or something like that)

then, you will have a message come up, same as if it were a PM and you can go and you can see what I put. No one but the two of us would know about it.
