for previously banned members?
just curious, any possibility of amnesty for members previously banned by prior board owners??? are there records of what someone has been banned for and are there degrees of seriousness? just ran across an old post from someone who was very valuable to urgent rescue and no longer able to post.

The Administrators on this board never take banning members lightly and give members every chance to abide by the rules. When we have given people warnings and time outs (suspensions) and they still refuse to follow the rules we are left little choice.

Just a note ... the Admins did ONCE reinstate a banned member. There were extenuating circumstances and the member was given a second chance.
It didn't take them very long to blow that second chance and get themselves banned again. That saying about a cat not being able to change it's spots comes to mind. Banning is NOT taken lightly. People are politely told to watch their words. Then they are warned. They get MULTIPLE warnings before they are banned. It is NOT a surprise to them and they know EXACTLY why they are being banned. They made their choices and they had to (and HAVE to) deal with the consequences. My personal opinion (as a member and not a Mod)? If you get banned you are GONE. End of story.

The board still has the same rules as it did under the previous owner. shepherd (Yung) has told everyone that things would be the same as when the previous owner had the board. So I do not believe nor have I been informed by shepherd that any rules have changed, so the answer to your question is no.

Ownership of the board may have changed hands but the rules are the same as they always have been. Like has been mentioned numerous times.... members are given a lot of chances (warnings and suspensions before banning). They are given numerous chances to abide by the rules they agreed to when they signed up. Not sure how a new owner of the board will make any difference to the ones who were banned for not adhering to the rules. The ones who repeatedly broke the rules had many chances to change. A new owner is not going to change previous members behavior any more than I can change the weather from being cold and snowy to being warm and sunny because I got a new boss at work. One has nothing to do with the other.

i understand. one of the things i like most about this board is that it's moderated and not the wild west like some others.
all these explanations make perfect sense, i probably didn't think it thru completely before i asked. yes jane, it is.

I think it's easier to make a case for amnesty when you aren't aware of everything that has gone on behind the scenes. It seems pretty simple on the surface. But when you are more fully aware of what it actually takes to get banned, then it becomes more clear that these were decisions that the banned folks had a very active part in and played a decisive role.
I have always found it interesting, since I post primarily in health where things are pretty neutral, when I step out of that and see other aspects of people that they don't show in forums in which I frequent. It often surprises me, just as some folks here, who think they know a member, and then later find them banned. |
