It seems a week doesn't go by that we don't see a dog on the Urgent board whos owner has died. Most of us can't imagine this happening to our dogs but the truth is many things change when we are no longer here. I'm sure a lot of people on these boards have taken the necessary steps to avoid their dogs being dumped at a shelter, but there are many more people out there that use these boards as an educational tool. For these people I would love to see a sticky post which addresses this issue.
This would not take the place of anyone getting legal advise as laws differ from state to state, but it could guide them as to where to look and things to think about. As a single person with no family (other than my dogs) this has always been an issue I've addressed, but so many people don't. We all like to think were going to outlive our pets, but things happen sometimes and we don't. It is our responsiblity to take steps now so that our pets don't end up as throw aways in shelter. I'm open to ideas, suggestions, etc. but would like to see something maybe in one of the Rescue areas.

Thanks Fred. Let me see what I can come up with for some ideas today. I'll add them here and see what others think.
