Default Just lock me up officer, I'm too wild to be on the loose right now

Linus really made me laugh last night. He is usually a very good boy but around 5-7 pm he gets a little wild and acts up.

After eating his dinner last night he started staring at the kitchen counters. He's been surfing the counters lately and we have been training him not to. I intercept him just as he is jumping up to put his feet on the counter. He gives me a defiant look and does it again. And again. And again. Each time I tell him OFF!, intercept as best I can then try to redirect and each time he gives me a wild look and just does it again. Then he drops down and starts chewing the rug. I tell him Leave It!.

Then he gets up from chomping on the rug, walks into his crate and lays down with a look of resignation. It's like he was saying "Just lock me up officer, I'm too wild right now to be on the loose right now."

I told him what good boy he was while laughing like crazy. I give him a bully stick and a raw bone and closed his crate door so we could eat our dinner in peace. He didn't complain at all--just laid into his chew toys with gusto.

Such a funny pupppy.

Oh that crazy kid! I love when in spite of ALL that naughtiness we still laugh. I own 2 that constantly do that. I'm so sick of saying ``OFF!'' and ``Absolutely NOT!'' (whew!)

Yeah, you have to keep a good sense of humor when raising a GSD. He can try my patience at times but moments like this one are so rewarding. It's also great to see the little improvements each day/week as he grows.

This is not the first time he has crated himself when he was acting like a wild hoon. I heaped on the praise when he did so.

Sometimes, he will respond to a series of corrections by taking it out on his bully stick or other chew toy. Great transfer of energy. What a good boy!
