Just have to vent...

We always have a full house (6 kids and 2 gsd) and our gsd's have not only taught all of us about unconditional love but have brought all of us even closer as a family BUT everyday on face book or other social media outlets we see way to many poor dogs giving up or just abandoned by their owners and its usually for no good reason. To see the look in their eyes, wondering what they did wrong just drives me nuts. I really think there should be some kind of regulation or training about who can and cant own a dog. To me it would be like raising one of my kids ( I know their dogs not people, just making an example) til their about 10 then putting them in foster homes cause I don't want to deal with them anymore. Really?? But i guess the only silver lining is that most of the time these poor dogs end up with people who will give them what they so deserve, a happy life and good home. Maybe I'm just becoming softer as I get older but I just don't get it...

And this is why I have 5 dogs and I still feel like I wish I could do more....

We just can't save them all. I totally understand what you're saying and I know the feeling. I also know the feeling of being overwhelmed with a number of rescues that made it impossible for me to meet each dog's needs appropriately.

And then I figured out there is another way to advocate for these guys. You must have a very busy schedule with your full house, but a hour or two of volunteer support each week for a rescue organization might ease your heart. And you can bring along an older child or two. And if time won't do it, maybe your children can help you find a dollar or two a day in the family budget to help save the dogs.

I considered those as a solution, but now I am actually building a grander plan. I am focusing strongly on my current career, and also building a business plan for my next business! So that I can retire in about ten years and open a boarding/training facility that will provide not only my own passive income for retirement after I manage it for about ten years, but will also provide homes for at least 15-20 rescues on any given day. It's a tall order, and I know I'm being crazy ambitious, but spending the time researching how I will ultimately make this happen keeps my mind off the dogs in need today and reassures me that I will do more for them in the long run.

Unfortunately your right. I am a busy person but I like is that way. Quite times make me nervous ( kids or dogs quite then something's going on.. Lol..) My friends says I thrive on chaos. But also my family and I take donations to the local rescue and shelter once a month. I've also had my kids donate their old but good clothes and toys to the women & children's shelter. I think its good to keep then grounded in reality and for them to understand that what you have doesn't define the person you are or could be.
