Default I have to learn to be more politically correct

Since I'm new to dogs and their owners, I'm still making a lot mistakes. One mistake happened at the dog park yesterday.

Empire and I were playing fetch with a stick when I noticed a women had entered with her two dogs. We made our way toward them and I introduced myself and Empire as the woman did the same. The dogs were getting along fine and so we began to make conversation.

I complemented her on one of her dogs, a blue heeler, which was just gorgeous! She began to tell me that he loved the nearby park, and she used to let him run around there and chase squirrels all the time. We'll he got rather good at calculating, she said, and he caught one.

I got a big smile and very enthusiastically said "GOOD!". I was thinking about the dog and was happy for HIM. Well she had such a look of horror on her face and said, "He's not allowed of leash over there anymore".

I was so happy for the dog catching the squirrel, that it didn't even occur to me that the owner would have opposite feelings. Lesson learned.

I would have done the same. I am NOT PC and flat out refuse to be. It's the worst thing that has ever happened to our society. It's probably not a good corporate career move but almost everyone knows me all the way up to VP level.

The dog was doing what he was bred to do. If she can't handle that, she definitely got the wrong breed of dog. I've been told that breed will do the same to any small animal. Dog, cat, tree rat, rabbits etc.

I say good for you.

I like squirrels and would not want to see one killed but dogs do what they do. That's the way it is, PC or not. I am not PC.

I got Lola some squirrel and chipmunk toys hoping when she's older she'll kill the live ones for me. We live in the woods and there are squirrel and chipmunks everywhere tearing up our yard.

disclaimer.. I am a huge animal lover! I could never personally hurt any animal. I cried when it hit a rabbit before. However, when we moved here I learned how damaging squirrels and especially chipmunks can be. And also if you have never heard a chipmunk mating call you tube it and listen to it on full volume for 8 hours.. that's how it's at my house all season long lol.

I am an animal lover too. I also understand and acknowledge the food chain , and natural predator prey relationships.

We have a nice fruit and vegetable garden ..birds , rabbits and squirrels ,ground hogs would destroy it. But they don't . Vee have vaays of dealing with zis..it also cuts down on the amount of raw I have to buy. Rabbits are expensive otherwise! ( I'm not P.C , ever)

My Mastiff was a feral rescue..she survived in the woods of Little Egg Harbor NJ for about 8 months. She was a local legend in the paper , like Bigfoot. The folks at an old age home named her Greta . Greta was NOT thin when they finally rescued her. It is obvious why , she became quite the hunter. I use to have to cover my fruit trees with netting to keep the birds away. Greta snatches birds mid air. Now we have nice pears , cherries , and plums every year. The squirrels don't get our watermelons anymore , the groundhogs leave our pea pods alone.

Winning ! lol ( and yes , regular stool checks at the vet)

I mean , it is how man and dog evolved to be so bonded. You keep us safe and keep the pests and other predators away , we will share our fire and food.

That said , I can call any of my dogs off anything ..including rabbits zig zagging. So maybe she should worry less about your disregard for the squirrel and more about gaining off lead control of her Heeler .

This right here. ^

I am not PC either. I was brought up in an age where every little thing you said didn't hurt some poor namby pamby's 'feelings' and go running off crying.
