Interesting first night in a crate...lol (moved to stories)

So we bring the little guy home last night after a VERY long day of having to get him from the breeder. Anyway, come bedtime I know exactly what's going to happen. He's going to go in there and cry his fool head off which he does.

Our female Border Collie, immediately runs to the crate, looks in, growls and barks. Puppy shuts up. One minute later, same thing. Another minute later, same thing. This time the puppy shuts up for good and sleeps through the night!:D

While this is going on, my wife is saying, "She's talking to him".

Proof that we are too soft when it comes to puppies and discipline, LOL.

Border Collie is enforcing the rules. I've had dogs like that. You issue a recall order to one and if they dont follow it fast enough the other dog runs em down and starts punishing till he does. It is not uncommon behavior in herding breeds.

Can I borrow your border Collie? We have a pup coming first of January.... I've been dreading the first couple nights in the crate.

Cable corrects, it's funny and very effective.

Haha right?! I wish my other dog wouldve done that with our puppy. Instead she just hid in our sons room where you couldn't hear him while I slept downstairs with him. Haha

My Gildo Koerbelbach grandson did that. He was excellent with puppies, too (not too hard on 'em, but didn't take any crap).

This is the first dog we will be getting without already having an older dog in the house. It's going to be a blessing and a curse. There have been a couple of bad nuances passed down for 3 generations.....However, the big dogs sure did teach them a lot of good too.
