German Shepherd returned to owner after nearly two years!!!

In January of 2012 I was living in a suburb of Tampa, Fl. With my 2 year old shepherd, Hailey. One day I let her outside into our fenced in back yard and went inside to take a shower. Upon coming out I found that she was gone. No evidence of her digging out but there was evidence that the gate had been opened. I searched for days for her and put up flyers in the area. I was told by police that the area has had a lot of thefts of pure bred dogs. I stayed in Florida for two months or so after that and then moved back to my home state of New York to get better work. I have since gotten another pup named Shane in early 2013 and never expected to hear anything about Hailey, and came to accept she was gone. In the beginning of November I got an email from a rescue in Florida saying that they found Hailey and identified her through the microchip in her neck. She was extremely emaciated and had worms and other problems asscociated with being a stray. She had obviously had a litter or two as she was accompanied by one of her puppies when she was found. They say for the looks of it somebody used her to get pups and make money selling the. And the dumped her by the looks of it. Now once she is healthy and ready for travel she will be transported up here to NY back to me! The rescue in Tampa is an excellent facility and I would strongly recommend any readers to donate as they are a C.A.R.E.S rescue and survive purely from donations alone. Just wanted to share cause its a happy ending kind of story and we need more of these out there today.

What an amazing story. A testament to the microchip.

Very happy you are getting her back. I wish they could catch those reponsible, who knows, maybe they have been arrested for other deeds, let's hope anyways. Look forward to hearing about your reunion and maybe a few pics!

Just another reason why I will never leave my dog alone anywhere. Even in my own backyard. So glad your dog was found, I hope she has a long and happy life with you. Good story, and good warning to all dog owners.
