Last night our neighbor came over. He brought a friend with him that we've never met before. We were sitting on the porch when they walked down our drive. Hondo barked a few times, but settled quickly when he was asked.
After a bit, hubby wanted to show the neighbor something in the house. I was going to remain on the porch with the dogs. When hubby got up (as well as the other two men) Hondo stood as well and walked towards the door. Hubby opened the door and walked in. Hondo turned to look at me (normal behavior, if one of us stays outside, he wants to stay outside) while our neighbor walked inside. The friend (a little nervous around Hondo) hesitated a moment and Hondo stepped forward blocking the door. The friend just stood there. The entire time Hondo was looking at me. Never even acknowledged the man waiting to enter the house. Honestly, I was pretty interested in this behavior. It was as if Hondo was asking if I wanted the strange guy in our home. The friend says, "Hey boy, you gonna let me in?" Hondo turned his head, looked up at the man and sat down, still blocking the door. At this point, I'm thinking Hondo is making the decision that the man can't enter our home, so I need to take back responsibility for our guest list. I said, "I suppose he's looking for a cover charge. Hondo, let him in." Never taking his eyes off the guy, Hondo gets up, walks over to me and lays down. The friend steps towards the door and says, "What would he have done if I walked over him?" I said, "You'd have started singing soprano."

That's why I love this breed so much, they are thinkers & always aware of their surroundings.
It really does seem like he was looking to you to approve the guy entering the home. Very interesting. Good boy Hondo

It could be he was waiting for me to get up and go in too. It could be that he didn't like the idea of the stranger walking into our home.
But it really looked like he just wasn't going to let this guy come in and he was politely asking permission to eat him. Either way, Hondo made a huge impression on this guy and never made a peep or showed a tooth. I like it.
