How long did it take you to find a German shepherd

How long did it take you to find a German shepherd? For Nico's owner it took her 5 years to find the right one. Lobo's owner it took her I don't know how long she looked for one. After her last German shepherd she waited 5 months before looking for another one. For my estimation I say perhaps 2015-2020. Who knows all depends on where to go for college and what I do. I live in the Bay Area so colleges are so convienent some of my high choices are around Bay Area. Who knows might be 5-7 years. I have a plan in mind just in case I live around the Bay Area for college probably rent if so. The idea isn't fully complete but I'm waiting patiently.

Actually I consider Lobo as my German shepherd I'll just wait to see what happens. I doubt it though. However, sad news not going to be with Lobo forever maybe.

My answer probably doesn't count. But I bought a local ad paper and found my GSD within 2 minutes.. I didn't do so well on the research part..

I joined a Schutzhund club with my mixed breed. After seeing and being around different GSDs for a year, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted and didn't want in my next dog. I joined this forum and read everything faithfully for two more years, learning a lot about temperament, responsible breeding, health issues, titles, pedigrees, history, working drives, balance, the different lines, and the ever so famous "off" switch. Then I started emailing breeders introducing myself, giving a bit of my dog owning background, and laying a bit of groundwork for a possible future puppy. Did more research by contacting people that had dogs from some of the breeders I was considering and asking questions.

Settled on a breeder and waited a year for my first pup.

It took me about 4 months, I just wanted to make sure I got the right match for our family, I just didn't want to jump the gun and bite off more then I Could chew but in those 4 months I did a whole lot of research to see if the breed was a right match and I'm so glad I did b/c she is the best all around dog I ever had:)

About 16 months. She was worth the wait.

I decided that I wanted a 3rd dog on a Tuesday, this was two days after I found a home for a rescue.. My boyfriend asked how I felt about GSD's and I remembered that I had seen an ad for one about a month before. I seen that ad and didn't think anything of it. One month later that ad was still there(when I went looking for it that Tues) and when I called she was still available. So we drove out to meet her and brought her home...it took me about 3 hours to decide a GSD was for me and go get her. Best decision I ever made, she is truly a wonderful dog. I probably hold the record for the shortest time:D
