I have had males and females of different breeds through being a volunteer foster carer.
Funnily enough I have always found the females to be more switched on to me. But maybe it's my personality. I found the boys to be a little aloof, and overly affectionate. Whereas the girls rarely left my side and were never pushy for affection. But I have never had the pleasure of owning a male GSD, just have a female at the moment, I couldn't possibly ask for a lovelier dog. In saying that, I'm not a tremendously cuddly person, I like my dogs to lay beside me peacefully and watch the world go by. As for having a clown, she makes me laugh daily, whether it be from stealing fruit off the tree with her acrobatics or just getting on the quad bike with me to feed the horses. Either way I love all dogs, male or female, giant or tea cup GSD being my favourite ofcourse. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

I always had male german shepherds before I got my first rescue which was a female,,I don't really have a preference after her, and got Masi because I wanted another female shepherd after Sami passed..Love her enthusiasm and well everything about her,,but I do miss my doofy males who really made me feel like the center of their universe...I will have another one day

If I found a non-drama-queen female and had no other females, I *might* consider it, but sometimes you don't know what drama-queens they are until you have them home and another girl comes in.

I love these stories!
I have always owned males. Jackson is very 'lovey' and ALWAYS in my face-it gets annoying sometimes. But I have to admit, I do like having a cuddly moose. If I bend down to pick something up, or sit on the floor within his reach, there he is, in my face trying to 'touch' me with his nose, he follows me everywhere, and sneaks himself up onto my lap like I'm not going to notice. He's always just THERE waiting for love. He is a huge drama queen too might I add. I love him!

I love Shasta but she can be a total PITA when it comes to affection. My next GSD will be a male. Getting another female pup for me is not optional.

I love having a male as well! His personality is drastically different than any of the females we've had over the years. He is such a goofball, always looking to get attention and make people laugh, and he is such a BOY! lol Definitely a new experience (he's my first male as well) but I love him. He literally cannot give you enough kisses, if my face is covered in slobber, it still wouldn't be good enough. He isn't the cuddle bug type though....he hardly ever comes in my bed to snuggle with me.
We snuggle on the floor before we get ready for the day.
