That's a bit unnerving! Isn't it rutting season for the bucks? If so then I'd be REAL careful with them!
I'd be really worried about bears but I envy a quiet walk with just me and my dogs, can't go anywhere here without there being a lot of people and cars. :/

Makes me glad that we don't live where there's bound to be that type of wildlife! Maybe Bear didn't see the buck being as much of a threat as the coyotes? I'd have found his backward glances very unnerving! I've learned to trust my shepherds, and I'd have also thought we were being followed!
