A young man I occasionally run into at the local dollar store, who noticed my dogs sitting in the back seat of my car when I run in for something, told me about a month ago he has his first German Shepherd. Two days ago I was in the store and he hunted me down in the aisles. Conversation went like this:
Him: "M'am, what do I do about my German Shepherd shedding so much?" Me: "Buy a Dyson." Him: "But seriously, I mean he sheds all the time." Me: "Yes, they do. I am serious. Use the Dyson about three times a day. Swifters are helpful in between vacuuming." Him: "I give him fish oil. Will that help?" Me: "It will make nice, shiny fuzz to continuously vacuum or Swifter up." Him: "I had no clue they shed this much." Me: "And oh, on top of it, if you don't know what the term blow a coat is, you will as soon as you see it." Sick, but I grinned half the way home. |

That's funny, but I knew exactly what I was getting myself into when getting my first German Shepherd Dog, Riley, or should I say German Shedder? Anyways here is I guess a GSD Funny, but also a pet peeve of mine.
Guy: Awww, you're dog is so cute. What breed is he? Me: SHE is a German Shepherd Dog. Guy: He's a very pretty German Shepherd. What's his name? Me: Thank you, SHE is a very pretty girl. HER name is Riley. Guy: He is so sweet! I can't get over how well behaved he is. Me: SHE is very sweet, and took awhile to get HER to behave this good. Guy: Well you're doing a good job with him. Oh wait, is it a girl? I just noticed the pink collar. Me: Yes, she's a female. Guy: Oh, well have a nice day. I really love your dog. She's so cute. I can't stand it when people do that. You say yeah, SHE is very cute. Then the person turns around and keeps calling her a he, when you're trying to tell them the nicest way possible that she is she and not he. I don't even know where he got the "fact" that she was he, when Riley clearly has a femine face. Yes people, Riley is in FACT A FEMALE!

I took my 16 week old boy to a puppy play class last week that one of his female litter mates also attends. They look almost identical. So much that even I mistook his sister for him once as they were running around playing. We were playing "pass the puppy" and a woman shouted, "How the heck do you tell your dogs apart?"
I paused for a moment and said, "Well, mine has a penis." The woman turned bright red and the entire class started cracking up. I laughed about it for days.

Sick, but I grinned half the way home.Ahahaha!!! I've had two huskies." Throw in the term "bi-annual" to the coat blowing and you can really confound them! : ) Along with GSDs, we've had Alaskan Malamutes and Huskies. When they blow coat they can cover acres with their fur; kind of scary actually! |

My vet and my past vet spelled shepherd wrong. I don't understand why or where the word shep(h)ard even came from when it is a herding breed. Onyx's 'breeder' also spelled it with an A. Red flag waving bigtime!
