And if she truly does feel that way about animals (not caring whether they live or die), I feel sorry for her because she's a less evolved human being. I really hope that she doesn't get a pet of any kind because a pet is totally dependent on the care of its owner. If they don't care, it's a recipe for disaster and the animals are the ones who suffer. It's puzzling to me why someone like that would even want one.

In any case, this kind of negativity and animosity has no place in a friendship. Life is too short to have people like that in your life. Take some classes in things you're interested in, join a dogwalking group, take group dog training classes--you might meet some potential friends who will be more positive and enlightened. She has a cat named Frankie, that she neutered too early in my opinion (4 months) and she has a sugar glider. Her glider hates her. She glides to me all the time. Maybe it's because I thoroughly clean her cage if I ever go over there.
