Default Welll, it finally happened... my dog doesn't look like a pup so much anymore ???

So apparently Bailey is now looking far more adult... and maybe more "scary."

We ran into Petco tonight. I was looking thru the collars. I'd found one I liked, but wrong size.. The Petco employee came up and we were both looking thru to see if there was a bigger size.

I was standing on Bailey's leash, so he had maybe 3 feet of room to move. No one was around us. He was calm and all was fine.

Some guy's dog came up pretty anxious. Not aggressive, just excited. Bails took a step or two towards the dog. Very friendly, Bailey loves dogs. Bails was just standing there, tail wagging. The other owner was a solid 6 or more feet away... but the owner said to his dog, "NO! Don't you know THAT dog will EAT you?!"

I was really surprised! I guess I think of Bails as a pup still. But physically, he doesn't look like one to many people. He's not a big boy - he's only 55 lbs, and 24" tall.

Really, Bailey couldn't have been a better dog - he was just standing there wagging his tail. It was just so surprising to me that someone else saw him as a "threat" to their dog.

NOW I understand a little better when the rest of you posters say things about how people perceive your dogs as killer-dogs. AHHH, yes, I get it.

(It didn't hurt my feelings at all... I only wish I hadn't been so busy messing with the collars and the other stuff in my hands.)

By the looks of your avatar, I'd say he's starting to look like a big boy =3 It's fun, isn't it?

Big dogs can have that affect on people. Just smile and tell them Bailey ate before you left the house, no worries.

I think it's bittersweet when they start to lose the puppy look. At first you can't wait to see what your puppy will look like as a full grown adult. Then, as he grows, you wonder where your baby went.

Based on your description of his dog I would assume that his dog sets a lot of dogs off so the guy is probably just expecting it based on his own dogs behaviour.

Anxiety travels down the leash, like all emotions we feel.Bailey looks like a young dog and from your posts quite a lover when it comes to other dogs. Kind of feel bad for that guy and his dogin the cycle of negative emotions.
