The Stupid things people do….
I wanted to share with you a little story about training. Sometimes it’s not the Dog which needs training it’s the owner. ![]() I have been a little more than lax with training and socializing my now 3 ½ yr. GSD. So, I’m finally got back at it!! I’m trying to join our local GSD club and spending much more time with my dog. Things are great, he is responding better than I could ever possibly imagine. It’s like he’s a different dog. I did take him to 3 obedience classes as a pup. But then I stopped. (My Stupidity)!! He’s like a sponge now it’s just amazing!! ![]() So, while we are waiting to see if we will be accepted to the club. The Dog and I are allowed to attend the Socialization/Obedience class they club has once a week. Although, it’s in the evening, dark we seem to manage pretty well. Until last night…. It was the end of the class. He had done pretty well for a pup with a lame owner. Sit, Heel, Stay, Down, ect. all better than I expected. Heck, He was better now than he was as a pup with weekly training for a little more than a year. So,we do this thing called Recall. Basically I’m in the middle of the class with the pup. We are to unleash the Dog put him in a sit/stay walk away and call him to sit at the front of you. If your dog can’t be unleashed you are to put him in a sit/stay back up and then call him while leashed. That was us the last pair to do the task and everyone else did so well. So, figuring I would move quickly backwards with a come on boy thrown in. I royally screwed up. While he did his part perfect I was starting to fall backwards. Which soon became an oh **** moment. All I could do was roll with it literally. I did a complete backwards summersault. In front of everyone. The pup landed on top of me and gave a look like can we do that again! And we did. This time I was a little less zealous and we did it right. ![]() Thus, we ended the night of training. With my neck killing me I went back to truck in shame loaded up and took off. I asked my wife if she had seen what had happened? Her response “That was cool but why were showing off?” Never mind dear let’s just go home. Hope they except us now in Club???

Personally I say that if you can do a backwards somersault and call your dog to you at the same time then, you flipping rock! Literally!!

Oh man...a backwards somersault?! That sounds both painful, and amazing at the same time. Stop showing off so much in class, jeeze.

Please don't think I'm being mean...but that really is funny! I hope you aren't hurt and I truly hope you get invited to join. If it were my club, I'd make sure you joined even if it were just for entertainment purposes only.
I can just picture your bullet dodging, ninja moves....LOL!

Thanks for all of the comments.
Ya I have to admit it's funny now. But it wasn't so much at the time. My Neck and back are getting better. I'll continue my work with the "Recall command" This time on a padded floor
