Default Funny story GS Police K-9

So before Christmas my wife was at work up front at a Spoting goods store and one of our freinds is a K-9 handler for the local police force so he came in the store and was shopping for his kids so he asked her if he could leave his dog with her while he shopped we know the dog very well so she said yes,so he puts the dog back their and gave it a comand and he layed down and my wife gives him treats too.So these teenagers come in and of course being teens you can imagine what it was like they got told several times to calm down or they would have to leave.so a lttle while later one of the teens came up to the counter and my wife was helping a cashier out so her back was turned to the kid so when he came up he slammed the stuff and his hands down on the counter well he didn't know but was going to be greeted by the K-9 for that from what I was told the kid pee'ed his pants the dog jumped up on the counter in full guard barking teeth the whole works I think the kid made it out the door in less then a second of course his freinds laughed about it as I was too but the dog did his job and did it well.It was funny watching it on the DVR security system but you couldn't make it out clear enough to so him pee himself.

Funny story I wanted to share.

No offense but I don't think this is funny. If it's true, there are so many things wrong with it, I don't know where to begin.

Some kids are raised with absolutely no respect or manners-this unruly teen seems to fit the description. The dog didn't bite him or anything, only taught him what his parents should have-to respect. I don't see anything wrong with what the dog did-he just gave the kid a warning, and hopefully the kid will think twice before misbehaving in a store again.

Why was the dog making it's own decisions when his handler had put him in a down and not yet released him? Jumping on the counter and baring it's teeth because there was a loud noise? Where was the threat?

The dog's job wasn't to teach kids in a store how to behave, that's ridiculous.

The kid was slamming things including his hands-I would define that as behaving a bit aggressively-or maybe just jerkishly. Handler wasn't with the dog at the time this guys wife was. As far as the dog making it's own decision-maybe he needs more training. When you see an officer with a K9 in my city he will tell you not to approach the side of the car that the K9 is in or he may bite you. If you want to shake the officers hand he has to tell the dog that it's ok for you to touch him. Not sure about other K9 training but I know that around here you just don't act any which way around the police dogs. Have you watched the program Cops-when the criminal is running and the police are with their K9's on a lead searching for the wanted person, those K9's are going wild tugging on the leash and making all kinds of noise. Very aggressive behavior from those K9's and they sure do not look under control to me-I saw a Cop program where they had the guy handcuffed and the K9 was on a lead and he was trying to drag the officer towards the criminal.

I am very disturbed by this story - police officer leaving his service dog unattended in a public place while attending to personal errands - and as mentioned, the dog not being under control and going on off on someone inappropriately - not something to laugh about or brag about. I just can't imagine a responsible dog handler being this cavalier about their dog.

nothing in this post justifies the dog jumping on the counter
at the kid. suppose it was an elderly person who
accidentally dropped something on the counter? did the OP's
wife have to take control of the dog? the officer
was irresponsible and the dog needs more training.
i wonder if the officer thought the situation was funny
and his dog acted appropriately?

I think it is very funny. I hope the dog didn't get in trouble.

I'm not gonna second guess someone else's K-9. If the dog thought it was a good idea to remind those punks of their manners, it's ok with me.
