Default Mixed feelings...

I've posted in the past about my co-worker who has gone through so many dogs in the time I've known her. A puppy left to die of parvo on the porch, 2 or 3 gotten rid of because they were "bad" in the house and chewed/peed while she was gone, another gotten rid of because he was intact and unattended so liked to roam, another shot, 2 hit by cars in the highway.
Well, earlier this week, she announced that she isn't going to get any more dogs. *big CHEER* for that.
The sad part is her reasoning behind it. To her, all the previous incidents were completely unavoidable. Nothing in the world that she could have done to prevent the puppy dying -
-trips to the vet for shots are expensive and she is too squeamish to give the shot herself.
-it's too much work to remember to put the dog on a runner when you let him outside.
-WAY too much hassle to supervise the dog for potty/playtime and to train him to stay in the yard.
- fencing is expensive and a lot of work to put up. If you leave the dog unattended in the yard 24/7 he will probably decide to dig or escape. Then the dog will get hit in the highway.

So, yeah, I'm torn. I'm relieved that I hopefully won't have to hear anymore horror stories. I'm sad that she doesn't think that SHE has been the problem all along and that if she just took responsibility she could be a good owner for a dog.

Some people like to live in denial. Let's just be grateful she's decided not to get anymore dogs .

oh no, no kids lol she doesn't like them

The bad thing is, everyone at work (except me) mostly agrees with her. That those are the only options. I guess I do to, if you are not going to put any actual effort into it.

I'm super relieved that she isn't getting another dog. I just arrrgh..
see, this is why I don't talk about dogs at work

I think you should agree with her too....that way she doesn't start thinking she's wrong and should try it again People are truly amazing.....and that's not always a good thing!

Ughhh its so frustrating isn't it?? Some people should just not be allowed to own dogs, just like some people with kids. It's not fair to the dog at all. I have a couple of friends that want a dog or a second one. I always tell them, be prepared for the training, the exercising, and be prepared to drop some dough if they get sick/hurt. If you can't do ALL 3 of those, then you don't deserve one. I just adopted out a French Bulldog I was fostering because the people didn't have time for it so they wanted someone else to give it a better home. So many of my friends wanted Arnie, but I just changed the subject because I didn't feel comfortable adopting him out to them. Thankfully a great friend adopted him and I know she will put the time, effort, and money into him.
