Default "Well, you're a woman, so you don't understand where I'm coming from"

"Well, you don't have to kill all the unwanted animals that come from situations just like this, so you don't understand either"

I'd say I had a pretty good comeback there. I am so frustrated!

His logic thus far: "But, its his manhood!", "But he won't be able to have sex! I'm not gonna take that away from him, he'll hate me!" "There is no way in **** I'm neutering him" "Why are you animal people so crazy about cutting everythings nuts off? Am I next?" <-yes, that all has come out of his mouth. Where do I start, people?

Ah, trying to convince one of my friends to neuter his dog. Touchy subject, but guess what? The dog, who is a beautiful black sable GSD, got out and bred a boxer. Oh, and who knows what else since he escapes frequently.

I helped him adopt this dog FROM A SHELTER. I tried explaining how backwards all of this was. The shelter did not neuter the dog bc he had kennel cough. They made him sign a paper saying to come back within 60 days. So much for enforcing that!!!!

I am so angry. I helped him rescue this dog. He wanted a GSD so bad, and I helped him look for one. I convinced him going to the shelter was the way to go. I have nagged him to neuter the dog since he got him in '09. He has already paid for it in the adoption fee!

Not to mention, this dog gets very...excited...by mere petting. The owner refuses to neuter the dog, but has complained numerous times about how his dog "gets all humpy if you just pet him sometimes, and [ejaculates] everywhere".

Now, as I said, the dog has gotten out and bred. My friend (who is more of my SOs friend, but he really is my friend besides this BIG issue) is just so damned adamant about not neutering his dog!

How can I get to him? The closest I got was convincing him not to purposefully breed him to another GSD. I used the "go volunteer down at the shelter and tell everyone what you plan to do" argument already. I have tried being mean, I have tried being nice. Usually nice.

Telling him that CA(or is it just socal?) alone euths 34k dogs a year got through. I told him to call the owners of the boxer back and give them links to cheap spay places. I told him to at the very, very least to fortify the **** out of his fence so his male can't escape. I told him the point wasn't to "cut his balls off" it was to prevent puppies.

Sorry for the long post, but am actually pretty bummed that his dog is getting out and making new ones to take his place and then some.

**Other than that, this dog is spoiled. He really loves this dog and takes great care of him. He just won't neuter him and won't fix his fence!

You can try to suggest it once. But if he's continous against it, let it be. You'll only damage your friendship and at one point he doesn't even want to touch the subject anymore nor talk to you.

It's a guy... trust me... nagging doesn't sit well with guys. So stop.

In TX, there is a civil penalty associated with adopting a dog at a shelter and failing to spay or neuter it within the allotted time frame. Is that not the case in CA?

I have had this argument with my sister in law a couple times - she refuses to neuter her two GSD's. I finally gave up and I just avoid the subject because it irks me to no end. She actually LAUGHS as she says she's not neutering them... as in, laughs at me that I will eventually neuter my puppy.
Sometimes you just have to walk away, it's all you can do.

That's all you can do. Just make it a suggestion but don't eat yourself up over it. They ain't your dogs.

About the only thing you can do is call the shelter and let them know not only has he NOT had the dog neutered but he does not contain the dog correctly and it has escaped and bred another dog.

As a guy I get irritated with guys who can't handle the thought of nuetering their pets. There are even implants for the animals to help with their self esteem (of course they are really aimed at the owners) Had a neighbor with three male dogs and finally got them all nuetered but for the longest time put up with the typical behaviours including marking in the house etc. It's just silly.
