Default No Thanks, Wolfie!

I really, really hate snakes. I hate seeing them at all, even seeing them on tv makes me nauseous. I was outside with Wolfie today, walking around the yard, and he catches a scent of something in the leaves on the edge of the woods. He scratched at the leaves a bit, and shoved his nose way under. He comes up with a dead snake! UGH! Then he tries to give it to me. I am hopping up and down and screeching, trying my hardest to get him to not put it on my leg. I yelled " Wolfie, Drop It!" He put it down on the ground in front of me. Poor Wolfie doesn't know why I got so upset at his "gift" . Poor me, I feel nauseous!

No, we don't have many venomous snakes around here. It was a garter snake, and definitely dead.

My dogs love to roll in dead snake. Eww!

Poor Wolfie, he thought you'd like his gift.

that's funny. i can see you standing there being scared
and Wolfie drops the snake (on command) at your feet.

You should collect all those posts you did from puppy hood on and put them on a blog with lots of pictures and then print a book with Wolfie Stories. I'd buy one.

There are two things that Wolfie will do on command without any hesitation. He could be in the midst of whatever and if I say down, he plops right down. The same thing with drop it. I wish "come" was just as instantaneous, but we are working on it.

I can relate to the "Come". Outside it was never an issue to re-call my dogs. They all listened very well. My problem was INSIDE a training building. Indra was everywhere else but with me and she wouldn't even engange with me when we first started training with our new trainer, INSIDE the building. So it was nowhere near as solid as I thought as I thought. It was very hard to swallow that pill. Boy did she rip me a new one LOL.

Anyhow, what we did was Crate Games and first we were like "What does that have to do with directionals." but those Games are for Self Control and Motivation. It's the third week of training. We've never even actively worked on the "Come" command but through those Crate Games the dog gets so focused on you, so motivated and learns to control his own impulses that all it takes is "WOLFIE!" and BOOM! He'd run up to you instantly, asking for more.

Try those Crate Games. They are fantastic and work wonders with the re-call and pretty much a lot of things. It also helps with the stay, down-stay, sit and pretty much anything.

Crate Games
