Default Almost Got Attacked By A Bully Breed!

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

This AM I was at a local elementary school doing some training. I was working on Elsa's down stay and fronts. Usually for the down stay she doesn't take her eyes off me, but she was kind of seeming distracted. When I did the recall to front, she turns her head and looks off to the right, which she NEVER does. I follow her gaze and at the edge of the trees there is this bully breed of some kind just staring us down. I grabbed her collar and started walking towards the car.....

The f-er starts following us and barking. Charge, stop, bark. Sheet sheet sheet is all I'm thinking. We manage to get to the car and I throw her in the crate and jump in..he'd probably managed to close the gap slowly to about 30 feet. The dog kind of wanders off so I think all is safe. I had some dog poop to throw away and I didn't want to leave it on the edge of the parking lot, so I got out of the car thinking the coast was clear.

I get to the trash can and throw the poop away. As I start walking back to the car, he comes charging at me barking from the trees. The only thing I could think of was to challenge him. Smart? Dumb? I dunno!!!!!!!! But I started screaming, stomping towards him, flailing my arms in the air. He kind of stopped and looking at me confused long enough that I was able to jump back in the car.

He STILL wasn't going anywhere...now he's in front of the car. I start it up, start honking my horn, revving the engine...............moves just enough I can turn aorund and drive off.

I'm soooo angry! I have no idea if the dog really would have had the balls to make it all the way to me -- and I shutter to think if he really would have done anything. Times like that I wish I had a taser and a stick in the car.

How scary! If you haven't done so already, please call your local animal control or police and notify them of the dog. If this dog is around a school, kids might go there to play even if there's no school today.

No owner around I was shaken up so didn't think of calling AC until much later....I doubt he's still around?

That's what I did the day before your encounter with the Bully we encountered. I don't want to even imagine...

I am glad both of you are okay. Whew, what an adventure, I doubt you needed any kind or form of coffe to wake you up, huh?

Pit Bull went after Nala right before we went to the Debbie Zappia training. I had Connie on the phone and luckily she didn't go depth because I yelled so hard and loud that he tucked his tail and ran back to his owner. Nothing happened, luckily.

I am glad that you guys are okay, though. That must have been a scare in the morning.

That sucks! You did the right thing IMO...most butt head dogs back down as soon as someone calls their bluff.

I suggest carrying pepper spray with you, or a stout stick.

I agree you should call AC...for that dog to be near a school is a child scarred for life and a bad news story waiting to happen.

Oh my god!! Where the h*ll was the owner?! What you did was really brave, I'm not sure I would have been able to confront a dog running at me like that.
