Default A big scare got me out of bed early this morning...

So I was sleeping in, since I'm off work for the Christmas Break. The phone rings with my son's ringtone. Uh-oh, this can't be good, he doesn't call me early in the morning unless it's trouble.

He's in a major PANIC, calling me from his work. His dogs (WGSD girl and Husky mix boy) have escaped. His gf let them out in the (fenced) yard, went in to brush her teeth and came back to find them gone. (I don't know how they managed it - the gate was closed, it's a five foot fence. They must have gone under?) Even more shocking to me was that Lexus, his WGSD, would escape. Heck, that girl lived here for months with my partially fenced yard and she just doesn't even seem to *want* to run off. I think it must've been the naughty Husky mix's influence...

Anyway, I jump in the car and I'm cruising all over the neighborhood. Nothing. The gf calls AC and they call her back to say there's been a sighting of the dogs (still together)... at the... AIRPORT. What? I'm freaking out, wondering have these dogs found their way onto a landing strip or whaat?

I'm 1 minute from the airport, so I go in. I see the airport police officer, so I flag her down. Yes, she says, they're in here somewhere, they've been spotted, but won't let anyone approach them. She said, "The white one nearly got run over." Now my blood pressure is HIGH. They are apparently not in the landing strip areas, but maybe worse, they are where a zillion vehicles are coming and going, in and out of the airport.

She tells me where they were last seen, so I concentrate there... I'm yelling Lexus' name out the window... driving slow... and.... voila, they come running around a corner, Frick and Frack and barrel towards my car.

I've never felt so relieved in my life to load those dogs up and take them home.

I told my son I'll cough up the money to neuter the Husky mix... hoping maybe it'll calm his urge to run and because we hardly need an intact Husky mix running around anywhere. And also that we MUST find the weakness in the fence. I can't imagine they went over a five footer... they're in that yard all the time and never have done that.

Anyway, the heart-dog that I don't own is safe and sound, Thank God.

wow talk about nerve wracking!!! holy moly! Keep in mind husky's tend to be more interested in running than staying close to home so he'll probably always have the desire to escape and explore. Sounds like he may be a bad influence on the shepherd though....

He doesn't, but my heart still skips a beat when I walk around the corner and see that the gate to his enclosed area is open and he's in another area.

Absolutely, positively nerve wracking. I mean, what worse place could they go to than an airport?? I could be on this forum tonight posting how Lexus had been run over. Injured, dead.. It's been on my mind all day and I've been thanking God that it worked out the way it did.

I absolutely know you're right - that Husky mix is the one who is the influence. No doubt in my mind. I don't know him all that well, he's a nice boy, very friendly, but I've not spent much time around him. BUT I do know Lexus and I know she just doesn't run off. She could've done it every night when she lived with me, but she wanted to hang out and play Frisbee. She wanted to come in when we did, etc and so on. Very, very family oriented girl.

We're going to go over all the fencing tomorrow with a fine toothed comb. I also hope the kids learned their lesson about letting the two dogs outside alone together. This had better not happen again.
