Default Another reason not to breed

Found out this week that my brother's exwife (who we still keep in contact with via Facebook because of the kids) bred her St Bernard so "she could be a mom". No papers, nothing, just wanted to breed her. Problem was? She's old... she had 5 puppies - 5 stillborn, 1 survived. Took 2 days for her to deliver the 6. When asked why she didn't take the dog to the vet... "I can't afford a vet visit".

Mom died the next day.

I can't tell her I'm sorry, I just can't. She's probably pissed at me because I asked about the vet, but I don't care.

OMG, that is so sad. I understand completely how you feel. That poor dog suffered.

What about the surviving pup, is she going to be the one to bottle feed it around the clock? Wow, that is so sad.
I don't think I would be able to show sympathy to her either, but would say RIP for mom and the pups.

That is so tragic and selfish of her. I hope she gives the surviving pup to someone who can properly take care of it.

I wouldn't be able to say "sorry you killed your dog". I hope she at least feels horrible.
Thats just so sad her ignorance killed the poor dog.

Wow.... That is just so selfish and catastrophic. My heart breaks for the Momma dog. I wonder what the fate is of the new puppy.... Obviously she didn't educate her self on whelping a litter or go to the vet (when she sould've). Does she even know how to take care of an infant pup? She sould have never breed her dog. So very sad....

This is heartbreaking. How much that dog must have suffered. You would think as a MOTHER she would have some empathy and sense about it.

So far she is (with the help of her kids). The pup is already "sold"... which is another thing that made me angry. She made a comment a few weeks ago that the money she gets from all the puppies will help her pay for her move to AZ. They have to move because they lost their house due to foreclosure. I guess she wasn't planning on buying any food or vet care for the puppies before they were sold.
I haven't heard if they are changing their minds and keeping the puppy or not. I hope they don't, but they will just end up with another dog anyway either way.

Stuff like that should fall under animal abuse.
