Default Why you chose GSD?

Just curious, why you own GSD as a pet? any loyalty stories?

My mom had 3 GSDs when I was born and they lived with us through a good portion of my childhood. I think seeing them since my very first days, they left a permanent mark upon my psyche...

Ever since they are the only dogs I have ever really wanted. I've lived with other breeds, but they never felt like "mine" like a GSD has.

My childhood best friend was a GSD (not mine, but my brother's friend's dog) and I had always wanted one... my husband's sister has them and I fell in love with them all over again being around them. Then Knuckles came into my life and the rest is history.

K9 officer Blazdale DARE program grade school....a LONG time ago! Any interaction that I had with a GSD was a positive one. I loved seeing the relationship between the owner and dog. We grew up with rescue dogs and they were great buddies but I always wanted a GSD.

I am one of those people who admire other breeds but will only own GSD and can't imagine not having one in my life.

My boy is very loyal and thinks that I am the best thing EVER!

I was alway impressed by a GSD's loyalty, intelligence, courageousness and always said if I got a doggy it would be nothing but a GSD
Now 20 years later I have Molly and she is everything and more then I could ever imagine

Intelligence, loyalty, energy, sense of humor (yes, most of them have one). I've found that I CONNECT with these dogs in a way I never have with any other.

Strange enough, I was attacked by a German Shepherd when I was about 8-9 years old and hated them for years until my ex-husband brought one home in the early 1980s. I've had German Shepherds since then. I now feel sorry for that poorly trained GSD that attacked me when I was a child, and wonder if she ever ended up being euthanized due to lack of owner control.

My parents adopted a retired police dog from a former k9 friend after he passed away unexpectedly and his adult children did not want the dog. What I loved about Rex was that he wasn't "background noise", as some dogs can be. Sure, my other two childhood dogs had great personalities and were friendly, but Rex was like having a person around-- he was very engaging, very expressive, and just on altogether another level from any other dog I've ever had or spent time around. Echo's proven to be very similar....

I got a puppy from the local pound, born there, Mother was a pure gsd! Best dog I ever had..and I have had lots! Loyal, velcro, smart, engaging, fun , playful, rolled on the floor with my kids, played well with other dogs, always alerted when a car pulled up our long driveway..and loved to scare the UPS man to death! (Sorry Mr. UPS)

Because how do you say no to a face like this?

he was everything we wanted, even though we weren't really looking for a dog. I've had dogs my whole life, and have always been intrigued by GSD's, and knew a lot about how to train, what to expect, yaddah yaddah. =] I'm an animal lover all around (I would have a zoo if my SO would let me
