I followed the Leerburg crating instructions for three days, taking Reyka on 5 long walks in the yard each day and a walk through the house each day to sniff and get used to new surroundings. She barks at a large rock in my yard. hahaha Lots of work stopping her from lunging up the porch steps ahead of me. Agile as a cat!
It got to the point Buddy was standing outside the crate whining and I knew he was ready to interact. A bit nervous (and trying to keep my nerves in check so as not to make Reyka nervous), today I took her outside on the leash and let Buddy out in the back yard. They played! No snapping from Reyka, and Buddy was doing his play bark and leaps with her, though he still mistrusts her a bit and would sit apart from us on the porch (I guess I would, too, if I'd been snipped on the nose three days ago). Reyka is a big hyperactive puppy and I think is starting to feel more secure here. Long haul and one small milestone, but I'm glad for it. Slow, steady and consistent we go . . . |

I really appreciate the support and help here. Second play date with Buddy and Reyka today went well as they sniffed at least an acre today together. Buddy gets ticked off when she won't stop her puppy antics and I tell her no and pull the leash back while he walks away. So far, so good. She is wound tight as a spring. I forgot how hyper they were when they were this young. I hate to tell her "no" all the time, but she's going to take some serious obedience training. She jumped up on the couch today and had to be told no and pulled off, she thinks it's great fun to snag paper towels from my hands and shred them up, she unstuffed part of her bed. I still haven't figured out how she sneaked a paper towl into her crate. It's amusing, for sure. Can y'all tell I'm getting attached to this wild little black GSD?
