Default Puppy Bomb, or How to wake up a Teen...

I have discovered a yet-to-fail way to wake up a teenager, in this case my 17 year old daughter.

She is out of school for the year now, and making the most of the fact that she has nothing to do, and no alarm clock. This is very depressing to the rest of us who wake up at 6AM every morning.

She has things that need to be done around the house, and yesterday failed to deliver in a spectacular fashion. This lead in a roundabout way to me being awake at 1:30 in the morning *still* baking cookies for school then next day. My wife woke up when I came to bed, and SHE was up past 2:00.

Mmmm, a spectacular method of getting Rachel out of bed was needed, and at a (to her) sinfully early hour. If I'm short of sleep *everybody* is short of sleep, when my lady Janet is short of sleep, whooooo.

Puppy Bomb! The method was simple, 7:15 in the morning a playful 30lb 3 month old German Shepherd puppy was psyched up and hoisted up on her bed and told to "Find Rachel!!.

The cold nose in the ear was good, the trampled head was better, the eager licking of her face was classic! The leaping up and down the length of the bed was quite effective I had to say, but it was playing Tug with her hair and Dad strobing the bedroom lights that was the clincher.

When up and puppy free Rachel was presented with her list for the day, failure of the to-do list was a promise of the same kind of wakeup call or better the following morning.

Completed list.

Awesome! A long time ago I dated a young lady (22) who was quite fond of the bed. I was in getting my first exposure to GSD through a young female, Lacy. I used the same technique..."Lacy, where is Heather?" Game on! You win the battle of words though because I never thought to name it a puppy bomb. SPCA should use that to market to parents in the same situation!

Great story...

Oh the tormenting of teenagers, I love it! Every morning, anywhere between 6:15-6:30 it's Saki's job to "go wake up the girls". Knuckles is in the learning process right now. Saki will bounce, jump, lick and barkbarkbark until both girls are out of bed. Sometimes she needs my command, sometimes she doesn't. I'm giving it now every morning, even if they are half way up the stairs, because of Knuckles.

HAHA..been my method for years. Its even funnier when the old, arthritic dogs try to jump on the bed, only make it half way, then scramble up and fall on the sleeping victim! Dogs as weapons..lol

You're supposed to give them a job and that's, as good as any other.
When our Rocky (RIP buddy) got too old/lame to get up on the bed, he'd pull the blankets, sheets and pillows off the bed to wake up our daughter.

Ahahaha, I do this too. Baxter's an 86lb puppy, but it all works out! Sam is terrible about waking up in the morning when we need to start getting ready for work. When he's gone, I'm up and moving by 5:30. When he's home? It's almost 6 by the time I convince him to get up and out of bed. I've started letting Baxter out of his crate, knowing full well that he'll leap onto the bed and trample anything in his path. He gets up faster now!

ROFL- Yep- I used to use Skye as an alarm clock for my 2 younger brothers. It was my job to get them up in the mornings- so I would just open up their doors and tell Skye- Get them out of bed!

she would go back and forth harassing each one of them until they got up then she would come lay in the bathroom while i was getting ready and go back to sleep herself- LOL

Love the term puppy bomb as well

My husband discovered this method a few years back. When you are short on GSD pups, a full grown spastic Australian Cattle Dog that barks REALLY loudly is a good backup option.

My son will be home from Auburn this weekend. I'll be back to hearing the TV or him on the computer at all hours for a few weeks. It's ok though cuz I REALLY miss him when he's at school.
