Ok I don't know if anyone read my post a week or two ago about Bianca's playdate but here is a link: Bianca made a new friend today! (GSD puppy)
So I happened to be looking at my Facebook news feed just now when I saw a cute GSD puppy and the caption said this dog was found in Chicago taken to the police station and scanned but he didn't have a microchip and asking if anyone was missing a puppy. I thought oh, that's a cute dog, I wonder where it was found. So I read the description and was going to post a comment that this is right near where I live. Then I realized it was right near where some of my friends live. Then I remembered their neighbor's German Shepherd puppy Bianca had a playdate with recently and I started to wonder. I called my friend and explained it to her (twice, I guess I talked too fast the first time) and told her to go ask her neighbors if their dog was missing. She pulled the photo/info up on her ipod to show them and said she'd call me when she got back. So she just called me back and it was their dog, Ace! Apparently the owner's next-door neighbor's fence (the side fence, where it meets their yard) had a hole and they'd tried to cover it up with bricks but the puppy had knocked them down and gotten out. They are on their way to pick him up right now! I am so glad I noticed the photo and thought of him, because I don't always check my Facebook news feed and I easily might have just thought it was a cute dog and kept going without realizing. My friend said that the person who found the dog is actually a police officer or a police officer is holding on to the dog, which is a good thing because when they said he was taken to a police station, I thought he might have ended up at the pound which would be a lot more difficult to get him back from. Apparently he is at the station or possibly at the person's house and that's where they are going now to pick him up. I am sure the officer would have put up "found dog" signs in the area or something but at least now he will get back to his owner right away, and they won't have to deal with Animal Care and Control (aka the pound)... Animal Control is WAY out on the south side (not a good area), on the opposite end of the city, and of course then there is an impound fee, license fee, microchip fee etc... Next time I see them I am going to make sure he has a tag on and tell them to get a microchip although I am sure the officer will already have said that. My friend said he does normally wear an ID tag so I am not sure what happened there, if he lost it or if the officer didn't call the number or what. Oh here is a photo of Ace too, since I didn't get a chance to take one with him and Bianca. This is the photo that was posted on Facebook... Last edited by Chicagocanine; 11-29-2011 at 10:15 PM. |
