My husband brought home another deer Sunday morning. While he was de-boning the deer, he gave Hondo the head. Hondo was laying quietly crunching away when a neighbor drove up to swap hunting stories.
My daughter and I were sitting on the porch with Hondo laying close by, still chewing on the deer head. Our neighbor noticed what Hondo was eating and proclaimed that allowing the dog to eat wild game will make him aggressive. My daughter asks, "Aggressive to deer?" Neighbor, "No. By giving him wild game you teach him to guard his food." Daughter, "You think he's afraid the deer will jump up and run?" Neighbor, "Do you think he'll allow you to take it from him?" Daughter, "I think he'll bring it to me." Neighbor laughs at this. Hubby and I are just watching all of this unfold. Daughter, " Hondo! (Hondo stops chewing and looks at her.) Bring it!" Sadly, Hondo jumps up and trots over to her with out the deer head, I'm thinking...drat!. Daughter, "Hondo! Bring it!" Hondo returns to the deer head, picks it up and drops it (splat!) at daughter's feet. Daughter is making every attempt not to heave at this point. She has somewhat a weak stomach. Neighbor, obviously amazed by this asks, "You think he'll let you touch it?" Daughter picks up the deer head by the plastic tie from the tag. Hondo runs back a step or two thinking she was going to throw it. I say, "If you throw it, he'll bring it back, leave Hondo alone now and let him enjoy the head." Daughter gets up and puts the deer head back off the porch. Hondo doesn't pick it up and trot off to find peace. Hondo lays down where she left the head and starts munching again. Neighbor turns to hubby and says, "Do you think he'd let me take it from him?" Hubby says, "You really want to try? If you want one that bad, I'll bring you the next deer head I get."

I have even better pictures, but I'm thinking they are a little too graphic for this site!

A picture is worth a thousand words. What's a little gore among friends.
