I have inserted microchips in dozens of dogs (when helping with my best friend's rescue) but have never actually chipped my own dog. Well, today I decided to do it and it was awful. I guess it was a combination of me being anxious of how she would react, her sensing that, and the fact that it actually did hurt, but the whole thing just went wrong. As soon as I inserted the needle she jumped (never had a dog more than flinch before) and I had to drop the syringe. It fell out into my hand so I had to stick her AGAIN and she was terrified. I wanted to get it over with, so went ahead with it. Poor thing was shaking!! I feel so so bad. She wouldn't even take a piece of hot dog from me as a peace offering. It's been about an hour now and she did come over and 'forgive me' with a nice snuggle, but I still feel bad...
I know having the chip is a good thing, but in the future I will let someone else do anything that will cause her pain or discomfort!

I feel for you. I've done tons of injections and blood draws on humans....but I am not giving Kaos 2x weekly injections of adequan, and I really need to mentally prepare myself before every one. It is getting better, but still not easy! Glad she forgave you
Kaos actually licked my hand as I was doing his last injection, so I guess he forgives me too

Happened when Abbie got chipped. They stuck her, and as they withdrew the needle the microchip fell out and to the ground. So the vet had to get a second chip and do it again. Abbie was not amused...
Don't worry, she'll get over it... |

yeah...it is different when you have a personal connection. Of course Kaos doesn't make it easy. In 9 yrs of never even whining for the vet, he lets out a cry like you wouldn't believe when I first started

I couldnt do a microchip insertion. It took me a while to be okay with doing our own shots when we're able. lol. Shasta screamed so loud when she got chipped. I felt horrible for having to take her in to get it done. She did great for her rabies shot recently but the remaining shots she screamed and just dropped to the floor and tried to crawl away.

When Bianca got microchipped I think she thought something was biting or stinging her because she tried to turn around and mouth on the syringe (not the person injecting it but the syringe itself.) She never does that with other shots or blood draws.

Sorry you and Addie had a tough time. I know I cant do anything w/ daisy as my nrevousness makes her more nutty. She has a crush on her vet and lovey 's him up. He moves so quick w/ aneedle that she is still being a flirt. W/ me doing anything it is the torture of the damned . The microchip will make you feel more secure and her safe but from what you said she is over it.
