Default She will attack you

So I was outside having fun with Indra. She was bored out of her mind. In two weeks we've only had one day of a little SAR work and other than that we didn't really do anything. So I took her out heeling a little, playing tug of war etc. when a stranger walked by. He stopped and said that I shouldn't do that. I was like "Do what?" and he was like "playing tug of war". I asked him why he feels that I shouldn't play tug of war and he said "Because you don't have control over the dog and she will attack you."

REALLY?

I don't think I can have more control over her than that:

Seriously... how much more control do I have to have to be able to play tug of war with my dog?

Wow, perfect "outs!" A+++ You have great control over your dog. Too bad you can't control the dumb things that come out peoples' mouths.

I always think of such things in terms of the serenity prayer: Focus on what you can control, have the serenity to ignore what you can't, and pray for the wisdom to know the difference!

Oh and just to add there are a ton of people who believe you will make them vicious, have no control over them, screw up their views of pack structure etc.... These people really need to learn how powerful playing tug can be.

He wasn't. He watched the part where she wrapped one of her legs around mine.

wow. I just love when people say stupid things. Wish people would realize not everyone is a clueless dog owner. I get playing tug can cause problems with SOME dogs but not all dogs. yeesh!

You have amazing control over Indra! You couldnt do the things you do with her if you didnt! She's a VERY smart working girl!

I think it is a pretty common misconception that people parrot back with no experience.

The other one I got when we got our first purebred GSD in 1985 was "he will turn on you". My parents shut up on that when when 3 year old daughter fell on him as he was napping and he licked her and laid his head back down.......

Indra really outs well . I love people who feel the need to share their nonexpert or even less informed opinion.. She looked like she was having fun and she was on it w/ responding.
