I must say that I'm getting my "old" Dakota back. At about a year and a half she developed dog issues to some dogs. Been working these out and we are doing great.
Except for little white dogs. The behavior is not on her part, infact the last few encounters she is back to ingnoring them. At first I thought she was throwing out signals that was causing the little white dogs to react. We took her downtown on Sunday and two little white dogs came after her. Both dogs were sitting between the handlers legs and when we walked by - explosion! She did not make eye contact with these dogs nor did she even see them because she was focusing on me. Yesterday, I'm walking her and approaching us is two young teen girls, with a little white dog pulling on the leash and running all over the sidewalk. I didn't like their lack of control so we gave a huge distance between them. Well the little white dog becomes a little white monster. The girls a laughing. I stopped and said to them. I bet you are glad that my dog is not acting like that. I expected lip from young teens but I got a very calm "good point" comment. I really need to meet a little white dog that does not go crazy. If I'm noticing it I'm sure Dakota is too. Good thing is that she is no longer reacting to that behavior from this type of dog. |

I'm thinking it's all little dogs? Every yorkie, chihuahua, pomeranian I pass by with my girl, they just seem to go off at her. My dog just looks at them and gives the face, "What's your problem?"
Although, there was one little one that hasn't gone off on my girl yet... But it's because the owner sees my girl from a distance so she picks up her little one and walks with it in her arms. |

I understand it if the owners are reacting and then the dog does, but the two we walked by we were far enough away that even if they came out on their retractable leash contact would not be made. OK off goes the lightbulb ! The dog has been conditioned to act like this every time they see a larger dog even if the larger dog is not in a position to cause a threat.
The calmest most relaxed little dog that I've ever seen was a pug at an controlled indoor dog park. This little dog was the queen of the park and was perfectly behaved. |

Little white dogs are our nemesis!
Sofie has been attact - yeah, really, twice by little white dogs. Our old girl Lily was chased and nipped by a little white dog on several occasions and finally pivoted and picked up the little dickens... owner screaming the whole time. Owner tried to pry his dog loose (DH having Lily on lead and holding collar) and came away with a bloody hand --- I arrived and pried dog loose to find dog totally unhurt. the blood what where the little dickens had bitten his own owner! Fast forward to moving here and two on flexies go for Sofie and Jack who down them - I don't get it either.

Must be a conspiracy. My girl was attacked by two little white jack russels when she was a puppy! Little buttheads!

I don't know. I met the cutest little white dog the other day. The owners said he loves to play with big dogs and brought him over from the small dog park.
He was 5 pounds of awesome. He was a Maltese/Poodle mix. The cutest little thing I have ever seen. He was hopping around with the big dogs. One Labrador just wanted to lick him to death. My girl even nuzzled him a little. I had to pick this little fellow up because his personality was just so cute and confident. He never barked and never cowered. His name was Trigger.

I LOVE meeting little dogs with big dog personalities. If I ever get suckered into a little dog, I want to get a little boston terrier for sure. They are the bounciest, silliest little things. We have one at our dog park that wrestles and chases after the big dogs... he is hilarious!

We also have a French Bulldog that hangs out in the big dog park. His name his Butch. He is so funny. I love him.

Something about little white dogs--it's the OWNER! Most LWD's are spoiled rotten and get away with crap people would never put up with from a big dog. Treat a LWD like a regular dog, and they'll act like a regular dog--but people seem to think that little dogs are perpetual infants. It's a shame because IMO it isn't fair to the dog.
