Default Festival Fun: She's big for a GSD...no wait, she's small

I thought this was funny... Bianca got called both small and large in the same outing!
We went to the Long Grove Apple Fest yesterday. We got the usual mix of: compliments from afar, people asking to pet her, and people telling their kids not to pet her (because of her Halti- people are sometimes leery even with the pink/red hearts ribbon I sewed onto it). We also got several people telling their kids not to bother the "working dogs" because we were there with my sister and her husband who had his guide dog. For some reason people assume Bianca is a "working dog" as well when they see us with them. If they're close enough to us I usually tell them she's not a service dog and that they can pet her if they want.

So anyway we were waiting in line for food, and a woman came up and said something like, "Oh! You're a girl! Large for a female, right?" She then explained that she'd seen Bianca from behind and thought she was a male due to her size, until she saw Bianca's face. I said that yep she is big for a female (she's 26" tall). We talked for a few seconds, then she moved on.
A little while later, we walked up to a street and there was a woman with a very handsome GSD. We were waiting to cross and the woman turned and saw Bianca, and said something about her being young. I explained that nope, she's 7 years old and I made some comment about her never growing into her ears. The woman replied that the reason she thought Bianca was young was because of her small size! I thought that was pretty funny considering just a little while before someone else had commented on her being large.

Here is a photo of my little big GSD at the festival:

i used to get that a lot when i took Zena out to anything like that. She's a good sized female. Averaged around 80lbs on a skinny day when she lived with me and was fed properly. Now that she's with my inlaws who over feed, she's averaging about 90-95 lbs on bad hips. (yes i'm bitter but nobody listens to the person who KNOWS BETTER!).

I'm curious to see what kind of responses i get this coming saturday at the dog day the housing office is putting on at our community center. I think she's small (60-65 lbs) but there are also times i look at her and realize she's a pretty good sized dog lol. We'll see!

We went to another festival today, the Scarecrow Festival in St Charles, and I wanted to post this photo of Bianca from the festival somewhere because I thought she looked cute. So I figured since I named this post "festival fun" I might as well post it here...

I cropped myself out of it because it looks better with just Bianca.

Another one from the festival, Bianca with a dog scarecrow:

We had a lot of fun at this festival too, they even had a special "Canine Corner" section for dogs (pet vendors/demos and such). Bianca got a lot of attention and less people acting scared although we still got a few. We also got a few people saying how much they loved German Shepherds, and several who thought she was a service dog again for some reason.

Oh yeah if anyone is interested, here are some more of the scarecrows. Only the first one is dog related though so if you don't care about scarecrows you can stop reading

This one had moving figures and was playing "A Pirate's Life for Me":

The faces on these three are really accurate:

Most people can't believe Zandra is 11 months old. I'm use to big dogs, and having seen the stock she comes from, I don't think she's overly large, but again I'm use to 75+ lbs dogs. It's really a matter of perspective and what you're use to I guess. The lady that thought she was small is probably use to great danes or mastiffs LOL

Well that's one reason I thought it was funny-- the lady who said Bianca was small had a German Shepherd with her, and he didn't look to be that much taller than Bianca.
