Little update here:

Here in the mountains it's already started to get a bit cold and since I work nights and drive a forklift outside quite a bit I have broken out the thermal underwear. I have a huge collection of thermals as I used to be a surveyor and had to work in any and all weather conditions. Seems thermal underwear is doggie crack, he cannot resist the siren call of merino wool/capaline undies. Brazen theft of my clothes has occurred on a daily basis. While in the shower he waltzed in and grabbed a mouthful of clothing and zipped out with his tail up. Upon snuggling into bed he spirited away a wool sock, I had secretly locked the doggie door however. I have taken to calling him Klepto. I found a bolus of clothing in a shallow grave in the corner of the flower garden. I believe an intervention is in order soon.

I stomp around and cuss when I realize that he's absconded with a favorite item, as he prowls the edges of what he considers a safe distance from me. I invariably feel bad for acting like such a boor. I think I am going to buy a doggie bed cover and stuff it full of my old stinky clothes for him. This dog owns me and he knows it.

Brembo,
It sounds like you and your Klepto have an awesome time together!

We do. It's a heavily skewed relationship however. He gets away with murder and I laugh as tho I've had a lobotomy. As far as being "naughty" goes he's a saint, does not bark, jump, act aggressive or any of the litany of things dogs do that are considered bad. He just has a quirk or two that ride the bleeding edge of bad versus spirited. All of the stuff he does that twists my tail *I* could stop by being more cognizant of the situation. I.E. put clothes in non-dog reachable places.

I think the reason he gets away with being a minor felon in the house is because he fits in so perfectly. Not saying he's the best dog ever to walk the planet, it's just for ME he's the best dog to walk the planet. People often say that GSDs are soooo smart because of this or that. Banjo's real genius is in how utterly and seemingly easily he has made himself irreplaceable. Pluck this animal from my life and I'd go into a terminal tailspin, I would be worthless for a good while. That is a survival trick that even humans cannot always pull off.

I know the feeling. My Ari dog has me laughing very often... as he completely goes against the house rules.
No NILIF here.... we practice MILIF (Most In Life Is Free) !
