Oh -- this is a good one.
In the past year sometime I was walking out the front door and I felt something brush against my heel. I looked down and there was a three-foot long black racer slithering past my front door -- I think I almost had a heart attack, more because Sobacca was with me and wanted to chase after it.
And the week after that my mom walked out of the front door and there were two of them about five feet (out and to the right) away from our front door mating.
Those snakes liked to hang around our house for a while.

I had forgotten about that one until KZoppa mentioned not leaving the house.
Oh, and yes, we go out in the middle of the night before bed and Minna almost always find some frog or toad that goes hopping away from her and she tries to chase after it.

i will happily admit i'm a huge wimp when it comes to creepy crawlys and reptiles and amphibians. No thank you! I'll stick with cute furry and four legs. Lions, tigers, bears oh my. Snakes and creepies like that, kill it!!! I'm constantly keeping Shasta and Shelby from chasing the toads on walks. I wont even go outside or walk them after it rains because there's usually 6 or 7 monsterous toads (monsterous to me, my husband makes fun of me) hanging around outside my front door. NO THANK YOU!!!! I actually freaked out and ran home screaming one time after it rained when a toad landed on my foot. This was back in July when my sister was visiting. She just about died laughing at me! i enjoy camping but dont really do well with nature. sad right?

almost stepped on a guarder snake at the lake, it literally hit my shoe when it slithered away, freaked me out, it was a huge guarder snake to, like probably a quarter around.

Also almost drove over a 7 foot water snake (not water moccacine but just a probably rat or king snake) a few years back around a different lake, I had to get out of the car and get it to go across the gravel that it was on, it was stretched across the entire 1 lane road, the vibration of my car being on and me stomping around I guess made it finally move on into the lake.
