Default anxious about being away from Heidi

We are leaving on a week vacation tomorrow. Two of our three dogs are staying home, including Heidi. The reason is we are going to be on a houseboat and my son is bringing his Boston Terrier and Heidi doesn't get along well with other dogs. Although I know the neighbors will take good care of her, I am feeling very guilty and anxious about leaving her behind. She turned 9 today and I worry. Also, I miss her so much when we are apart that it almost takes the fun out of going. This vacation will most likely involve hiking and Heidi is my hiking buddy.

I think we all feel that way, even though we know they'll be fine. You'll have to tell her all about the trip when you get home. Have fun!

If it makes you feel any better, UGH, I know how you feel. That is one of the worst things about having dogs -- leaving them. When I was down to one dog, I was thinking: "Ahhh, now I can feel better about traveling. When he's gone, I'm going to take a break from dogs for about 2 years to travel."

Hmmm. I'm back up to three.

Same here and I said I would never get a puppy again, because I get too attached. My next dog was "supposed" to be an older rescue, that maybe I could keep myself from being so attached. Then a friend kept telling me about this little White GSD puppy, for free, I couldn't say no.

Last summer, we left Phenix for 3½ weeks....God it was hard. We went in France and couldn't bring him with us. My sister lived in our appartment for the 3½ weeks to take care of him. I knew he was in good hands: she walked him each day, played with him, brang him to my mother house so he could play with her dog etc.

But I felt so guilty....I know how you feel because I've cried almost 2 weeks on 3 because I was missing my dog I know it s not "logic" because we should benefit of our vacations....

Try to do your best to benefit the present moment. 1 weel isn't bad and too long

I will try. The neighbors will be over numerous times a day to care for Heidi and Loki, but they are not staying at our house.
